Star Trek: Voyager – Road to Calydon
Voyager was stopped. On the bridge, Captain Kathryn Janeway looked at the viewscreen showing the nebula on their path to the Alpha Quadrant. She turned to Neelix, whom she had summoned when Voyager had dropped out of warp just short of it’s perimeter. “And you say this nebula is safe?”
“Yes. Relatively diffuse compared to those garden variety compact nebulae. If it was dangerous, I would have recommended a different path,” Neelix answered.
“That sounds like a ringing endorsement,” Ensign Harry Kim said.
“But we should be cautious,” Janeway said. “Mr. Paris, take us in, Warp 3.”
“Aye, Captain,” Lieutenant Tom Paris responded. “Warp 3.”
An hour later, Voyager received a distress call. “It’s coming from deeper in the nebula,” Harry reported.
“Prepare to change course,” Janeway ordered.
“Aye Captain.”
“A group of refugees aboard a previously abandoned station. There is a strange ion storm,” Kim reported.
“Mr. Paris.”
“Changing course,” Paris reported.
As Voyager entered the outer reaches of the storm, Kes came onto the bridge. “Kes?” Janeway asked.
“This is no ordinary storm. Something bad is going to happen,” Kes said. “I can’t describe it, but it’s some kind of feeling I have.”
“Go on,” Janeway prompted, as she saw Tuvok give a look of concern.
“That’s all for the moment. But we do need to help those refugees,” Kes added.
It seemed that Neelix had already told her, either that or her powers were more powerful than suspected, Janeway reflected. “How soon can we reach that station?” she asked.
“Fifteen minutes, Captain,” Paris reported.
“We’ll be there soon, Kes.” Kathryn saw the look on the young Ocampa’s face. “You don’t need to worry.”
“I’m afraid that there’s going to be more suffering, Captain.”
Kes’ pronouncement of suffering was still on the Captain’s mind as Voyager docked with the station. The ion storm made the use of transporters inadvisable.

Janeway and the Red Angel
April 4, 2376
It was an ordinary day aboard Voyager. Suddenly, the ship shook. “Report,” Captain Kathryn Janeway ordered.
“Reading severe spatial distortion, like a wormhole, in the Shuttlebay,” Ensign Harry Kim reported.
“Tuvok, take a security team to the shuttlebay,” Janeway ordered.
Tuvok nodded and left the Tactical station.
“Captain?” Chakotay asked. He had his suspicion of what was happening, but wanted to know that Janeway thought it too.
Janeway turned to him and nodded. That was enough.
Tuvok, entered the Shuttlebay, phaser drawn. He didn't see anything, just two of the shuttles and the Delta Flyer. The phenomenon had vanished. “I know you're there,” he said.
A human woman, wearing some kind of strange suit walked out from behind one of the shuttles. “I'm Gabriel Burnham, I want to talk to Captain Kathryn Janeway.”
Tuvok escorted Gabriel Burnham into the ready room and left. Janeway had already called up all the information she thought she would need. “Dr. Burnham. I know why you're here.”
“Do you?”
“Yes. And no, I'm not deleting the Doctor.”
“So, you're aware of the danger?”
“Every Starfleet Captain is.”
April 4, 2376

“Navigational report...” Paris began. “We have moved one light year closer to the Alpha Quadrant.”
“A very good result,” Janeway said.
“It works. We can go home!” Harry said enthusiastically.
Janeway raised her hand.
Chakotay turned and said. “Let's not get ahead of ourselves, Harry.”
“All we have proved is that the Spore Drive works over relatively short distances.”

“All systems are ready for the test, Captain,” Torres reported.
“Acknowledged, Lieutenant,” Janeway said. “Mr. Paris, set target for one light year closer to the Alpha Quadrant.”
“Course laid in, Captain,” Paris reported.
“Janeway to all hands, Black Alert!”
“Black Alert,” the computer reported.
The circular hull rings began to spin. Less than two seconds later, Voyager spun to the starboard and vanished from that location.

“Let's continue shall we?” AlbLaur said.
“Sure,” Rosa said.
A minute later, they found the next clue, hidden next to the ruin of a ship lodged against a tall tree by a long ago flood. “Quest onwards to the Great Oak, but prepare for backtracking near the ocean,”
Rosa read.
“Not a real clue,” Elric stated.

“Aye, Captain,” Tom Paris responded. Voyager changed course.
Ten minutes later, Voyager dropped out of warp, and entered standard orbit of the M-Class planet. Shortly afterwards, an away mission was prepared.
