A temporal anomaly occurred aboard the starship. A version of Kes from over 5 years in the future appeared in Engineering. Torres saw Kes. “Lost?” she asked.

“No, just looking,” Kes answered. “Captain Janeway suggested that I get more familiar with the ship.”

“Well, if you have any questions, let me know,” Torres responded.

“Thanks.”

“We're about to run a diagnostic on the warp core assembly. You can watch if you want.”

“Thanks, but I should really be getting back to Sickbay.”

Kes left Engineering. “Computer, how long has Voyager been in the Delta Quadrant?”

“Fifty Six days, seventeen hours.”

Kes entered Sickbay and picked up a hypospray. She saw the EMH come out of the office and hid it behind her back.

“Back so soon? I thought you went to the airponics bay to collect herbs,” he commented.

“I forgot something.”

“Ah. Pyong Ko.”

“Excuse me?” Kes asked.

“You encouraged me to choose a name, remember? Pyong Ko was a twenty first century surgeon who discovered the genetic sequence for inhibiting cancer cells. It heralded a new chapter in Earth's medical history. ”

“That's a perfect name, Doctor.”

“Then again, I'm also considering Schweizter, Jarvik, Pasteur. There are so many options, each with it's own merits,” the Doctor said.

“Why don't you give it some more thought? You don't have to decide right away.”

“Of course, it's not that I require one for reasons of vanity. I'm just a hologram after all...”

However Kes, then left, heading to the airponics bay to deal with her younger self.

Excerpt from: The Engineer and the Time Lady
“Where do you want to start?” Gamma asked.

Aialah was in thought for a moment. “Engineering.”

“Sure,” Gamma said. She lead Aialah back to the turbolift.

Alpha was more concerned about Aialah after her reaction to Beta.

Clara interrupted. “I heard about something unusual.”

“Is that it? I think there’s something more,” Lauren said.

“Of course, there’s more,” the other one, the Doctor, said. “But what can you tell us about what has been happening?”

‘So, what next?’ Clara wondered. She wasn’t sure.

“I have noticed something,” Vastra added. “It is warmer than it should be for this time of year.”

She placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. Tasha’s turbulent emotions began to settle. But she knew that would have to be a session after they arrived at Farpoint.

“Greviously savage could mean anything,” Picard said. “I will answer only specific charges.”

“Are you certain you want a full disclosure of human ugliness?” Q asked. “So be it, fool!” He turned to the bailiff. “Present the charges.”

“Hello, Doctor. Can I join you two?”

“Feel free, Geordi.”

He sat down. “Do you think we’ve been wasting our time?” he asked.

“What do you mean?” Beverly’s son, Wesley, asked.

“I mean, it’s nearly two weeks since we started back from Deneb IV, and we haven’t found anything.”

“It could that the areas of space we’re going through are less active than others closer to the Federation,” Beverly added.

“I have checked our course,” Wesley said. “And we are avoiding star clusters and instead going by isolated stars.”

Voyager jumped to warp without difficulty. “The storm is still causing some turbulence,” Paris reported. “But it’s minor. It’ll be an hour until we’re out of the nebula.”

“Understood,” Janeway said.

“Right,” Chakotay said. “You can’t stay here. You need to move to either your assigned quarters, the Mess Hall, or one of the lounges.”

“Do as he says,” Kes said.

“I’ll go to my quarters,” Hana decided. “Where you can tell me more about the Ocampa.”

“There’s not much to say,” Kes said.

“Maybe not, but I would like to know.”

Even so, the refugees took a while to move, as Voyager still shuddered.

In Engineering, an alarm came up on the Master Systems Display. “What?” Torres asked herself as she responded to the alarm.

“It looks like an EPS conduit is malfunctioning,” Ensign Vorik commented.

“I know that, Ensign!” Torres shot back.

“All systems are ready for the test, Captain,” Torres reported.

“Acknowledged, Lieutenant,” Janeway said. “Mr. Paris, set target for one light year closer to the Alpha Quadrant.”

“Course laid in, Captain,” Paris reported.

“Janeway to all hands, Black Alert!”

“Black Alert,” the computer reported.

The circular hull rings began to spin. Less than two seconds later, Voyager spun to the starboard and vanished from that location.

“Yes, 12007 level difficulty,” Talnym said.

“Let's continue shall we?” AlbLaur said.

“Sure,” Rosa said.

A minute later, they found the next clue, hidden next to the ruin of a ship lodged against a tall tree by a long ago flood. “Quest onwards to the Great Oak, but prepare for backtracking near the ocean,”
Rosa read.

“Not a real clue,” Elric stated.

Star Trek: Voyager – Spores, A Way Home?
8 May 2371

It was just over two weeks since Voyager had left the Ocampa System. Captain Kathryn Janeway had an idea, based on something she had been briefed on after she was promoted to Captain. (There were a lot of things a Starfleet Officer was briefed on when they became Captain, but this particular thing was most relevant to Voyager's situation.) It had been a good day on the Bridge, with no encounter with any ships, enemy or otherwise. (But she was certain that they hadn't seen the last of the Kazon...)
Once in her quarters, she activated her terminal. “Computer, access confidential file: DSC-1031-DASH, authorisation code: Janeway pi alpha six.”

Security Code Confirmed,” the Computer said. “Playing first video file.” The screen then showed a man with pale skin, blonde hair and piercing blue eyes. “I am Lt. Commander Paul Stamets, This is an introduction to the Displacement Activated Spore Hub Drive, for future Starfleet Captains.

Janeway paid close attention as the long-dead Stamets detailed how the Spore Drive used the universial Mycelium to move a starship through space.

Later in the day, Janeway showed Commander Chakotay, and Lt. Commander Tuvok the video.

“So, you're saying that we can use this 'Spore Drive' to get home?” Chakotay asked.

“Yes,” Janeway answered. “But there is a problem. The technical schematics for the drive are in the computer, but...”

“We don't have any of the necessary spores aboard?” Tuvok concluded.

“Exactly, nor are any in sensor range. But we may run across some on our route to the Alpha Quadrant. The computer will flag them when Voyager detects them.”

“So you're telling us to be alert for this possible way home?” Chakotay asked.

“Yes.”
