Challenge #3

In your own space, talk about a fannish opinion you hold that has changed over time. Post your answer to today’s challenge in your own space and leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Despite society's insistence otherwise, the beliefs and opinions that we hold about things change over time. We thought it was important that we reflect that (and perhaps laugh at our previously ill-considered opinions) with this challenge.

Check out the comments for all the awesome participants of the challenge and visit their journals/challenge responses to comment on their posts and cheer them on.

And just as a reminder: this is a low pressure, fun challenge. If you aren't comfortable doing a particular challenge, then don't. We aren't keeping track of who does what.

Not many have changed over time. However, there is one I'll talk about.
When Star Trek: Discovery started. I thought it was quite good. However as time passed, especially from the second season onwards, I saw that it was a mess. The jump to the 32nd Century didn't really solve that issue, and probably contributed to the next note.
Michael Burnham. She is insufferable and preachy, and only become more so over time.

(But these issues didn't stop me being as completionist with Discovery as with other Trek series.

It's not good that Lower Decks ended after only five seasons.)
Of course, ratings in reviews are subjective. All reviewers are looking at the subject in many different ways, whether it be a television series episode, movie or novel. There are many things in an episode I would look at when I'm reviewing it, and deciding upon the rating. Not only how the story and the characterisation work together, but also how I enjoyed it, and how well its themes show through. In the case of a series like Discovery, how well the episode continues the overall story is also considered.
But these are not the only aspects that are considered. It's also a matter of comparison with other episodes in the series. Sure there are stinker episodes, but I would rather watch Vaunting Ambition, Threshold or Spock's Brain, rather than something like Shades of Grey (which would definitely get a low rating).
Sphere Data and Rommie
The Sphere Data as it appears in Forget Me Not vs. Rommie as she develops up to All Great Neptune's Ocean.
There isn't much to compare. The Sphere Data and Rommie have different personalities. Rommie also developed further over the ten episodes.
Comparison: That Hope is You Part 1 and Far From Home with Under The Night/An Affirming Flame
Obviously, That Hope is You Part 1 and Far From Home are separate stories, whereas Under The Night/An Affirming Flame is a two part premiere (much like The Vulcan Hello/Battle of the Binary Stars).

The situations of Burnham and Discovery and the Andromeda Ascendant are different. Dylan and Rommie didn't expect 300 years to pass as they got close to the black hole. The only similarity is that there is a battle before the time travel occurs. (Maybe Andromeda would have been better with a season prior to the 300 jump showing the Commonwealth as it was before it fell?)

Both Burnham and Saru are different to Dylan Hunt. Nor can we really compare the Discovery and Eureka Maru crews nor Rommie with the Sphere Data.

Gerentex and Zarah? They're also different.

Note
I have been rewatching Andromeda, so there will be some comparisons between the two shows.
Star Trek Discovery – Arrival
Burnham and the Discovery emerged from the wormhole. “Full scan,” Saru ordered.

“Aye, sir,” Owosekun answered.

A minute later, she confirmed that they had arrived at Terralysium 930 years in the future. “Burnham to Discovery. Permission to come aboard.

“Permission granted,” Saru said. “Owo, full scan of the planet. Let's see what we're dealing with.”

“Aye, sir.”
