19. Rescuing Hernandez
“We're now close to the MI6 Building,” Hawkins reported as they passed the Vauxhall Bridge.

“Beginning scan,” T'Sal reported.

The scan took a while.

“She's there,” T'Sal said.

“So, can we get a lock?” Rostova asked.

“No,” T'Sal said. “I can't localise it. We'll have to go in ourselves and free her.”

“Great!” Rostova complained. “At least it should be easier than during the War.”

“Remember that this is during the Cold War. It's not going to be a cakewalk,” Hawkins said.

“I know that,” Rostova said, putting on a bad British accent.

“Orders?” Hawkins asked.

“Pull up alongside the Embankment,” T'Sal ordered.

“We'll be there in a few moments,” Hawkins said.

As soon as the Harris came alongside the Embankment, T'Sal and Rostova emerged from the top hatch. “The Building is approximately half a kilometer to the northeast,” T'Sal said.

“That isn't too far,” Rostova said.

“But it would be quite a distance to run once we have Hernandez,” T'Sal said as she slipped on a hat to hide her Vulcan ears.

“Quite true. But I managed to outrun Vorta and Cardassians in the War. I'll manage.”

“I'm aware of that. That is one reason I chose you for this mission.”

Rostova acknowledged that with a nod.

Once on the Embankment they set off towards the MI6 Building at a slow, but steady pace.

They approached the building 15 minutes later. )
An Away Team Moves to Rescue Hernandez
“Say that again?” Emmerson asked. “Hernandez was caught by the British agent?”

“That’s right,” Lawson said.

“Report back to the ship,” he ordered.

“Aye, Captain,” Albert said.

Ten minutes later, Lawson and Albert entered the Observation Lounge. “What just happened?”

“Hernandez went after the agent to grab the energy device off him,” Lawson answered.

“I know that, but how did she get captured?”

“We’re not entirely sure,” Albert said.

The captain sighed. “We’ll bring up the logs from the Toronto,” he decided. He input some instructions into his PADD and the logs came up on the wall monitor.

“Hernandez to Toronto.”

“Lawson here.”

“I have the device, and I'm now outside, in a back ally.”

“We're taking off now.”

“Thanks.”

“The device is giving out interference. I can't get a lock on either of them.”

“If she threw it, could you get it in a tractor beam?”

“If it's at a low factor. But wouldn't it be easier to land?”

“There isn't enough room!”

“We can't get a lock or land! But we can get it in a tractor beam if you throw it.”

“Let's do that.”

“Readying the tractor beam.”

The Captain glared at Lawson and Albert. “You then flew away with the device back here!”

“With it in our tractor beam, it was still interfering with the transporter,” Albert explained.

The Captain sighed. “I suppose. But now we have to rescue her without violating the Prime Directive. It's certainly a tall order.”

Hernandez glared at Bond... )
56. No Time To Die
The latest in the James Bond movie franchise, based on the novels by Ian Fleming (albeit not on any particular novel). A retired James Bond is brought back into the fold at MI6 after he discovers a threat to civilization. (A recurring theme through the various films.) The cold open depicting a defining moment from Madelaine Swans childhood was appropriately chilling, and lead to payoffs later in the film. A sequence with an inexperienced CIA agent in Cuba was also enjoyable. Overall, the film was very good. Certainly, one of the best of the recent films.
Even with a bittersweet ending. 8.91/10.
007 and Hernandez
Night had fallen when 007 approached the Bodleian Library. He was sure it was shut. Fortunately, he knew there was an underground entrance on the western side.

When he got to the entrance, he could see that it had already been opened. There was evidence of it having simply been pushed open. He sighed. He knew others were after whatever the device was. He looked around and slowly entered the passage

He found the object where the report stated it was, but there were others already there! They immediately moved to fight him. Why did it always have to be so?

Soon, he had defeated the enemy agents and grabbed the artifact. But then he heard something. “Who’s there?” he asked.

There was no answer. He then went back the way he came.

Shortly after he emerged outside, he heard something behind him. He turned and asked. “Is someone there?” Shortly afterwards there was a strange electronic sound emanating from the passageway. He ran back, but found nobody. ‘I better get back to London,’ he decided.

On the way back to London, especially after leaving Oxford, he felt that he was being followed. It was just as well the motorway had been completed the previous year. He stayed alert, prepared for anything. Suddenly he saw a motorcycle headlamp behind him. ‘Uh oh!’
Before he could react, he saw another two vehicles veer off the opposite side of the motorway.

With the two (Russian?) agents defeated by the mysterious motorbike rider, 007 pulled over. The motorcycle rider pulled up behind him.

He took his gun out from his shoulder holster and stepped out of the car.

“Thanks for the intervention,” he said. “But I would like to know who you are.”

The motorcyclist took off her helmet, letting her blonde hair fall loose over her shoulders. “Daniela Hernandez.”

“Bond. James Bond.” He sized up this Hernandez, she had an Oxford accent.

Hernandez looked at this James Bond. He was looking at her in more ways than one. ‘What to say?’ she pondered. “What was your objective?” he asked.

“You obtained something in Oxford,” she said.

“You’re not taking it,” Bond stated.

“It is something you may not be ready for,” Hernandez shot back. ‘Careful, don’t antagonise him.’ Too bad she didn’t have time to redesign a phaser to look like a gun of the period. Then she could have stunned him easily.

“What do you mean?”

“It is something technological isn’t it?”

“Yes,” Bond answered in a guarded tone. “But I trust my Quartermaster to be able to work it out.”

“That’s what I’m afraid of.”

Bond looked closely at the pensive expression on Hernandez’ face. She was clearly hiding a lot of things. ‘I need to do something, before she tries something desperate,’ he thought. He was sure of one thing. That asking her who she worked for wouldn’t be a good idea.”

“I can let you look at it somewhere secure.”

“Sure.”

As Bond got back in the car, Hernandez contacted the Toronto. “I’m going to follow him to a safehouse.”

“Are you sure that’s wise?” Lawson asked.

“There’s not much choice. I don’t want to hurt him. I’m sure I hurt those Warsaw Pact agents…”

“Right.”

“Captain’s Log, Stardate 41153.7. Preparing to detach the Saucer Section, so that families and the majority of the ship’s company can seek relative safety while the vessel’s Stardrive, containing the Battle Bridge and main armaments, will turn back and confront the mystery that is threatening us.”

Saucer Separation was hardly new. The Galaxy class had simply taken the concept further. The earlier classes of ship (the Excelsior and Ambassador classes mainly) could reconnect with an involved manual process, but the Galaxy could do it with various automated modes.

The Princess harrumphed. “How naïve! Most people who think like that don’t survive long here.”

“Really?” Janeway considered. “The Federation has survived for more than two centuries.”

Elseran gave a derisive snort.

“Look,” Q Junior said. “If you were to take any of the shuttles, you wouldn’t last long against that armada!”

“But what would the alternative be. Voyager and her crew fighting to protect me, leading to my death along with theirs?”

“Nothing really,” Haru said.

The Doctor moved closer to Martha. “Haru may know something. I can’t put my finger on it.”

“We have heard that there is something unusual about this area,” Martha said.

“This area. Nothing really remarkable about it,” Haru said in a way the suggested she knew something.

“Really?” the Doctor asked.
