Leigh arrived at the Meerkat exhibit, and saw that Cora was already there. She was crouched down next to the glass looking at the Meerkats where they were lying in a huddle. “Hi, Leigh,” she said as she stood up. “It's amazing how small they are!”

“Definitely, everyone says that,” Leigh said.

“Do they?”

“Pretty much.”

“Is anyone else coming?”

“DK is.”

It had been four days, but Voyager hadn't beamed him up! They must be having trouble with the transporters. Fortunately, no matter how long Lt. Torres took to resolve the problem, he would be able to survive. He had already gained some knowledge of the planet during those days. Enough to know that presence of Voyager had seriously affected the various societies in this world.

“You can also say something about them,” Leigh said.

“Maybe,” Jay considered.

“But you don't have to,” Elisabeth said.

“Of course,” Jay said.

“But they are interesting in other ways,” Leigh said. He then grabbed the camcorder.

“This incarnation is still taking some getting used to,” she said. “I'm still finding this new voice weird.”

“That makes two of us,” the Doctor said. He still wasn't how the Metacrisis had triggered a regeneration in a human.

You know I don't want to be here again.” She paused before adding, “and also, that I won't miss too much,” she said. Little did she know, that the second part to the prayer was about to be answered in a dramatic way...

The rest of the day went by normally, but as night fell on Sydney, something was happening elsewhere.

Everything was normal, but then something unusual happened. At 12:01 AM GMT, there was a flash of light in geostationary orbit, above the 0,0 coordinate. When the light vanished, there was a large structure in the orbital location that hadn't been there before.

The station had gone to red alert as it detected a massive subspace distortion. “Report,” Captain Benjamin Sisko ordered.

“Unknown, sir,” Chief Miles O'Brien reported. “We're no longer in the Bajoran System.”

It was shortly after lunch when the rushing carriage arrived at the archaeological site. Not for the first time, Professor James Livingstone wondered why he had been dragged all the way out here on the Cetian frontier. (Of course, the real frontier, the forefront of discovery, was further out.) He had travelled more than 22000 miles, through four portals, from Cambridge, where he had received the message four months before.
If nothing else, he was thankful for the Steam Revolution and the advancements it brought. If not for railways and steamships, he would still in transit, approaching the Ceylon Portal. He then saw one of the other archaeologists approaching.
“Welcome, Professor, to Ua Valla site 51,” he said with an Oxford accent. “We've been waiting for four months since we sent the telegram.”

Leigh arrived at the Black Handed Spider Monkey exhibit, along with his mother Elisabeth. “So, you're ready to record?” she asked.

“Yes,” Leigh answered.

“Is Cora still away?”

“Yes,” Leigh said quietly. Left unsaid, was what Cora was dealing with, yet again. (But at least she hadn't been away as long as the last time.)

Elisabeth hugged her son and said something to encourage him.

“Thanks,” he said, as he got the camcorder out of its case.

A few minutes later, he was ready.

He considered that. While he considered the resident android a friend, he wasn't sure he wanted to see her so soon (from his perspective).

Deep in the Royal Palace at Theed, the young lady in handmaid's clothes activated a holocomm. A dark, ominous figure appeared. “Report, my apprentice,” he commanded.

“The Trade Federation fleet is in orbit, Master,” the apprentice stated submissively. “The blockade has started just as you said.”

“Good. It is exactly as I have planned.”

“Yes, Master.”

“You know what to do,” the Master said.

The apprentice nodded as the holocomm deactivated.

Another hand-maid entered the room. “They're ready, Padme,” she said.

The apprentice, Padme, stood up. “Then let's deal with this blockade.”

A while later, the Trade Federation had dispatched the Jedi that the Republic had sent (or so they thought.)

“Sir, a transmission from the planet,” one of the crew said.

“It's Queen Amidala herself,” the Viceroy, Nute Gunary said. “At last we shall get results.
Again you come before me, your highness. The Federation is pleased.

“You will not be pleased when you hear what I have to say, Viceroy, your trade boycott of our planet has ended.”

The Viceroy smirked. “I was not aware of such a failure.”

“I have word that the Senate is finally voting on this blockade of yours.”

“I take it you know the outcome. I wonder why they bother to vote.”

“Enough of this pretense, Viceroy!” the Queen said. Gunray thought he could see some kind of flash in her eyes as she spoke the first word.

The voyage back to the the Nine Isles took considerably longer than the flight away. Picaro stood on the prow staring at the stars as the sky darkened, the ending of a very interesting day. Despite the lateness of the hour, he didn't feel like resting yet. William stood next to him, seemingly lost in his own thoughts. The rest of the crew did their jobs quietly, giving him the time. He was grateful.
Shadowing the Ebora were Gowson's flagship and the 'Mad Duke's ship.

It was a week since Voyager had left the Ocampa system. The crew were still getting used to their situation.

It was a boring day on the Bridge, however that was soon to change. Suddenly, there was an alert on the operations console. “Sensors have picked up a strange energy reading.”

Star Trek: Voyager – Spores, A Way Home?

It was just over two weeks since Voyager had left the Ocampa System. Captain Kathryn Janeway had an idea, based on something she had been briefed on after she was promoted to Captain. (There were a lot of things a Starfleet Officer was briefed on when they became Captain, but this particular thing was most relevant to Voyager's situation.) It had been a good day on the Bridge, with no encounter with any ships, enemy or otherwise. (But she was certain that they hadn't seen the last of the Kazon...)
Once in her quarters, she activated her terminal. “Computer, access confidential file: DSC-1031-DASH, authorisation code: Janeway pi alpha six.”

“Security Code Confirmed,” the Computer said. “Playing first video file.” The screen then showed a man with pale skin, blonde hair and piercing blue eyes. “I am Lt. Commander Paul Stamets, This is an introduction to the Displacement Activated Spore Hub Drive, for future Starfleet Captains.”

Janeway paid close attention as the long-dead Stamets detailed how the Spore Drive used the universial Mycelium to move a starship through space.

Later in the day, Janeway showed Commander Chakotay, and Lt. Commander Tuvok the video.

“So, you're saying that we can use this 'Spore Drive' to get home?” Chakotay asked.

“Yes,” Janeway answered. “But there is a problem. The technical schematics for the drive are in the computer, but...”

“We don't have any of the necessary spores aboard?” Tuvok concluded.

“Exactly, nor are any in sensor range. But we may run across some on our route to the Alpha Quadrant. The computer will flag them when Voyager detects them.”

“So you're telling us to be alert for this possible way home?” Chakotay asked.

“Yes.”
