Part 2
D 74656 – Bajor Sector
Tom Sloane emerged from the Ferengi establishment on Deep Space Nine’s Promenade. “Didn’t they warn you about Ferengi at the Academy?” he asked. The young Ensign, DeWit-Clinton was his name, had been rather out his depth…

“As a matter of fact, they did,” DeWit-Clinton said with a slight self-effacing laugh.

“Let’s get to Voyager,” Sloane said.

Ten minutes later they entered Voyager’s sickbay. “Run a level three diagnostic, just to be sure. Can I help you?”

“Tom Sloane, reporting on board.”

“Oh, yes. The observer,” the doctor said with condescension.

Tom picked up on it. “That’s me. As a matter of fact, I’m observing some kind of problem right now, Doctor,” he said placing scorn on the title.

“I was a surgeon at the hospital on Caldic Prime at the same time you were stationed there. We never actually met. Your medical records have arrived from your last posting, Mister Sloane. Everything seems to be in order. The Captain asked if you were on board. You should check in with her.”

“I haven’t reported to the Captain either,” De Wit-Clinton admitted.

“Well, Mr. DeWit-Clinton, that would be something a new Operations Officer should do.”

“What was that all about?” DeWit-Clinton asked as he and Sloane emerged from the Sickbay.

“It’s a long story, Ted. I’m tired of telling it. I’m sure someone around here will tell you before long.”

Tom Sloane was busy repairing a vehicle when he heard a fairly monotonous voice.

"Tom Sloane?"

He turned to the source of the voice. A short female Human in a Starfleet Captain's uniform.

"That's me," he said.

"Daria Morgendorffer, I served with your father on the Al-Batani. I wonder if we could go somewhere and talk."

"About What?"

"About a job we'd like you to do for us," the Captain asked. Sarcasm showed heavily in her tone.

"I am already doing a job, for the Federation," Tom shot back, with equal sarcasm.

"I've been told the Rehab Commission is rather pleased with your work. They've given me their approval to discuss this matter with you."

"I guess I'm yours."

A Romantic Night?
The doorbell rang. Daria opened the door. “Hi, Tom,” she said. They then discreetly kissed.

“Hi, Daria. So, what was this romantic spot you wanted to show me?” Tom Sloane asked.

“Um, upstairs,” Daria said.

When the couple emerged onto the first floor, they heard the Fashion Club talking in Quinn's room.

“Why does one of them sound like they are on a speaker phone?” Tom asked.

“She broke her leg, apparently she doesn't want to be seen,” Daria said.

“Rigtht,” Tom said, as Daria led him to the guest room.

“What's so romantic about the Guest Room?” Tom asked as they entered the guest room.

“It's not the guest room itself, it's where it leads to,” Daria said enigmatically.

Tom wasn't sure of what to say.

Daria opened the closet and pulled him in.

“Um, Daria, what are you doing?”

Daria grabbed a nearby coat hook and turned it. Tom could then hear some rumbling.

“What's that?”

“Wait, Tom, oh, and lean against the back of the closet,” Daria said.

“What?” Tom looked out of the closet and saw that the part of the guest room ceiling close to the closet was retracting. 'That's weird,' he thought. He then felt a jerk as the closet rose, then swung so that he and Daria were on their backs on the back of the closet. “What's happening?”

“In a few seconds, we will be above the roof,” Daria said.

Indeed, Tom could see the roof retracting, thus showing the night sky, with a few stars visible which could outshine Lawndale's light pollution.
After another two seconds, the closet rose towards the sky. About five seconds later, it stopped, and railings rose above the edges of the closet.

Daria got up first. She held out her hand. “Are you going to get up?” she asked.

Tom grabbed her hand “Sure,” he said, sheepishly.

When he got up, he and Daria looked out over Lawndale. “Wow, you're right, this is romantic,” he finally said.

Daria gave him a peck on the cheek. “I thought you would say that,” she said.

“But, how does this, closet-platform work?”

“The house belonged to a stage magician before it belonged to the family with the psychotic relative. This platform and my room are not the only parts of the house that are unusual.”

Tom looked to the north. “There are more mechanisms like this?” he asked.

Daria also looked to the north and glanced at what could be seen of the Big Dipper. “I will show you them later,” she said.

“But how do we get down?” Tom asked.

“By pushing one of the railings to the side, the one with the word 'push' on it.”

“Cool,” Tom said as he gave his girlfriend another kiss.

Back at the High School, Torii heard a sharp cracking sound, like that of a whip. She saw that Sandi had disappeared into thin air. She slammed into the wall where Sandi had been standing moments before.

‘Great, she could have gone anywhere whilst time was ‘stopped’ she thought. She didn’t consider herself a ‘brain’ but she knew enough to know that time wouldn’t completely stop. ‘I guess that I should go home now,’ she thought. She then started walking out of the school, automatically judging the popularity of the students she saw as she went by. She overheard Quinn and her posse discussing the day’s events as she left the school.

Sandi and Jean had chosen a lane next to Jane and her bowling partner, whose name on the score screen was given as ‘Tom’ (verses Jane’s ‘Janie’).

“I wish for a winning streak,” Sandi said, as she went for her first bowl. (Her and Jean’s names on the score screen were ‘Sandi’ and ‘Jeani’ respectively.) Jean reluctantly granted the wish.

“Your wish is granted!” Jean said.

“Excellent!” Sandi said as she bowled.

( Jane looked as Sandi got her second strike on her 4th frame. )
