Title: Paternoster Row - Prologue
Fandom: Doctor Who
Characters: Clara Oswald, Lady Vastra
An alternate ending to Deep Breath. Clara finds herself stranded in the past with the Paternoster Gang.
Paternoster Row
Stranded

The Paternoster Gang arrived home with Clara Oswald after the Doctor’s defeat of the Half Faced Man. “You’re sure he’d come back here?” Jenny Flint asked.

“There’s no trace of him in the wreckage. They searched all Parliament Hill. Where else would he go?” Vastra asked. They then noticed a square space in the straw. It was empty. The TARDIS was gone. “I fear we have missed him.”

The next day, the Doctor still hadn’t appeared. Clara knocked on the door of Vastra’s chamber. “Please come in,” Vastra directed. She saw that Clara hadn’t dressed in the clothes she had arrived in two days earlier, rather in another of Jenny’s outfits. Perhaps she wasn’t as sure of the Doctor returning as she thought.

“I’m not interrupting?”

“I should be glad of your company. What can I do for you?”

“Ah,” Clara said. “Well, that’s exactly what I was going to ask you. Seems like I’m stuck here now. Got a vacancy?”

“You are very welcome to join our little household, but the Doctor could return at any moment.”

Clara frowned. “I don’t think he is. And I don’t suppose you have any Vortex Manipulators?”

“I was afraid of that. If the person who knows him best in the whole universe doesn’t know if he will return, then he isn’t likely to return soon.” Vastra paused. “I’m afraid we don’t have any Vortex Manipulators, but you are welcome to stay.”

Clara teared up. “Thanks.”

“I know this will be a shock, so you can come to Jenny or myself if you want to talk, understood?”

“Yes, Ma’am.”

“Please, call me Vastra.”

“Vastra.”
When There Is A Crossing of Paths
Clara Oswald waited. It was Wednesday night and the Doctor was late. She knew there were many reasons why the TARDIS would overshoot the time the Doctor would set, and yet she was impatient. She wanted to go on adventure, to do anything that would help keep her mind off how handsome a certain Mathematics teacher was. She shook her head as his image came to her mind’s eye. She then forced herself to imagine the Doctor as he had been before his regeneration. It had been difficult to accept that change.
‘How does he cope with the change of identity each time it happens?’ she pondered. But that line of thought was broken as she began to hear the TARDIS arrive. The ship landed and the Doctor emerged. “Finally!” she said.

“Finally?” the Doctor asked.

“You’re late. It’s nearly midnight.”

“So? It’s still Wednesday.”

“I was expecting you hours ago,” Clara said as she entered the ship.

“I hope you didn’t waste that time,” the Doctor said.

“Of course not!” She did get a lot of work done.

“Where would you like to go?” the Doctor asked once the TARDIS was in motion again.

“Maybe, Japan?”

“Japan? That’s hardly specific is it?”

“Tokyo,” Clara answered. “Maybe the Olympics in 1964?”

“Sure.”

Soon the TARDIS had landed again. “Tokyo 1964.”

Clara went to the door and opened it. “Doctor. I don’t think this is Tokyo,” she said as she looked at the rural countryside in front of her. She turned back to where the Doctor was rechecking the Scanner.

“You’re right. It’s a village in Hokkaido,” the Doctor clarified. “And we didn’t really travel in time. Only by a matter of minutes.”

Alpha waited in the Shuttle Bay. It had been four hours since Nina had left the marooned ship. She wondered why she was taking so long. She had gone over the Starfleet records on the encounters with the Doctor. Those hadn't really been illuminating, hardly applicable to the situation she found herself in, despite there being Voyager logs in the mix. She had re-read Captain Janeway's report on her third encounter with the Doctor when she heard the sound of the TARDIS beginning to arrive. “Finally.”

The TARDIS landed. Alpha could see that it was once again disguised as a shuttle, and was adorned with the Baffin's registry number on it's sides. Nina emerged. She still looked a little wet from her dip in the ocean, although she was no longer soaked. “Why do you look worried?” she asked.

“It's over four hours since you left that ship,” Alpha replied. “What happened out there?”

“It's nothing,” Nina said with a shake of her head.

It was clearly not nothing, but Alpha decided to give her the benefit of the doubt.

“This is but a temporary setback,” Kamasagi retorted.

“No doubt of that,” Clara said.

“Clara!” the Doctor objected.

“We’ll have to investigate further,” she said.

“Oh, you’re good,” Kamasagi said with sarcasm.

Clara just responded with a glare.

“Of course,” the Doctor said. “But there is something else you should be aware of,” the Doctor said as he parried a blow.

“What’s that?” Kamasagi said as he locked blades with Mariko.

“You have underestimated me,” the Doctor said. He brandished his ‘sonic’ device again.

Rey knew staying on Tattooine wasn’t an option. The planet reminded her too much of Jakku. Then there was the fact the Hutts ran the place. She approached the Falcon, which had landed close to the abandoned Lars moisture farm. “Time to go,” she said to Chewbacca.

“Where?” he asked.

“Naboo,” she answered. “It may be where my grandfather came from, but it’s also where their mother came from.

Chewie nodded as he boarded the ship ahead of her.

The Falcon emerged from hyperspace into the Naboo system.
