Excerpt from: The Lord of The Rings – At Bombadil’s House
Goldberry saw the four Hobbits hesitate after stepping over the threshold. “Enter, good guests!”

The Hobbits timidly stepped further into the room, bowed awkwardly.

She sprang up and ran laughing towards them. “Enter, good guests!”

Excerpt from: Spider Quinn
As she headed out, she knew that she would talk more with her mother that night.

Ninja Talon arrived on the roof of Lawndale High and changed to the usual cheerleader persona of Brittany Taylor. She paused as she came to the door downwards. She knew what she was going to do, break up with Kevin Thompson. ‘I’m sure I’ll find him before homeroom, calling Mack ‘Mack Daddy’ in that oblivious way. And I’m sure I’ll run into Quinn too.’ She opened the door.

Once down in the school, she almost ran into Quinn as she rounded a corner.

“Brit?” Quinn asked. “Are you looking for Kevin?”

“Happy Birthday!” Brittany said, as she threw her arms around her friend and superhero partner (although not before making sure no one was looking). “Yes. I’m still annoyed that he wasn’t at the play.”

“Thanks, Brit. I’m sure he has some reason.”

“It will be just an excuse!”

“Probably,” Quinn said. Her tone changed, matching one she sometimes used as SpiderGirl. “Daria found something.”

“What was it?” Brittany asked as she stepped back.

“Daria was at Daddy’s grave…”

Brittany wasn’t sure what to make of what Quinn had said. “So, it’s based on Shakespeare?” she asked.

“Yes, on his sonnets.”

Brittany twirled her hair. “I have read most of them.”

“Maybe you could ask Daria if you could have a look.”

“I’ll do that, sometime today, or tonight at the party.”

At lunch time, Daria met up with Ted-Dewit Clinton as they both left a class. He looked at the poem. “The sentiment is nice, but the fact you found it in the graveyard reminds me of the Amityville Horror.”

Daria was surprised. “You’ve seen the Amityville Horror?”

“Yes. Robert showed me it. Very interesting.”

“Robert?”

“Yes, it was before he started going out with Angie. Definitely before SpiderGirl appeared,” Ted answered.

“It’s a little romantic, from a certain point of view. But then, I’ve never had a love letter before.”

“Many people in school send love letters.”

Events
North America
Roosevelt finds difficulty in opposing monopolies, with the various monopolistic ‘robber barons’ lobbying various Congressmen… Various developments overseas alarm the Administration, with the State Department working overtime to determine what was going on.

South America
Mostly peaceful.

Europe
Parliament discusses the situation in India (see below) in mid April. In late April, Prime Minister Balfour orders that more troops be sent to India to put down Khan’s rebellion. But it would take time to move troops into position…

Saruman takes stock of the situation, before deciding to meet both the Pope and the Italian Prime Minister. Italy was still reeling from the consequences of Justin’s appearance. The Wizard is able to persuade the PM to give him an advisory role, planning for a future usurpation.

Constantinople has become chaotic. Greece captures more of Thrace, hoping to capture the City some time the next year.

In Russia, or rather, St. Petersburg, the Tsar doesn’t want a repeat of the previous year’s events in Moscow. He orders that Russia be prepared for the return of Justin (or any similar entities).

Africa
South Africa decides not to send troops to India at London’s request. (see below.)

Asia
Rebellions continue to occur in Ottoman held lands.

After finding himself in an India 90 years in the past, Khan finds a place to stay and then begins to plan to usurp the Raj. He considers laying low, but decides to go to Calcutta as soon as possible. Arriving in Calcutta in early March, he begins gathering supporters who are not happy with the way India is run by the British. (Not very hard to find, and he is persuasive.) As such there is unrest in Calcutta (and other major cities, such as Delhi, Bombay and Lahore specifically) by early April.
Khan assassinates the Governor General in late April, followed by his supporters gaining control of the centre of the city. With his strategic mind, he is able to manoeuvre his forces in such a way to be able to capture more of Calcutta. There are outbreaks of rebellion spreading through the subcontinent by the middle of the year. The Indian War of Independence had begun (but Khan had plans…)

With Justin under his wing (as it were) the Emperor decides to gather more information on what is happening in the world before making any more moves. He is especially interested in Khan.

Lupin is flummoxed by appearing in a Japan nearly a century in the past. He quickly finds a place to stay and begins his career of crime anew. Police in Tokyo quickly find themselves stumped.

Oceania
Alfred Deakin becomes Prime Minister of Australia a second time after George Reid’s government fails to be stable. Neither the Reid Government, nor the Deakin Government, send troops to India.

Huey Long continues to grow in influence in Brisbane and Queensland in general.
The Lord of the Rings – Merry and Estella
It was a cool autumn evening when Estella Bolger arrived at Brandy Hall. As she walked up to one of the side doors, she listened to the Brandywine as it flowed past one of Buckleberry’s many docks. There were many sounds a skilled hobbit could pick out. Mostly wind in the trees and many birds and insects singing. She listened for a few seconds more then knocked on the door.

It was opened by one of the younger Brandybucks. “Hi, Estella,” he said. “Merry is waiting in the North Hall.”

“Thanks,” Estella said.

Estella always found getting through Brandy Hall difficult, what with the large number of Brandybucks going to and fro through the hallways, which branched this way in that in unpredictable ways. It was like the Brandybucks didn’t plan out the expansion of the Smial. However, she remembered the way to the North Hall and entered less than 5 minutes after she was let in.

“Hi, Estella,” Merry said.

Twenty minutes later, they arrived at the first of the stations. The Doctor looked around. He found the security station. He approached it, holding up the psychic paper. “Ilkona Investigation Agency. I'm looking for information on a breakdown near this station.”

“All the information on that can be accessed here.”

“So, the crew of that ship didn't want help?” she asked.

“No,” Nina answered.

“Anything else?”

“No.”

The monosyllabic answers weren't exactly satisfying, but Alpha didn't want to push. “No doubt you're exhausted.”

“I'm not exhausted,” Nina objected.

“Exhausted or not, you're off duty until tomorrow,” Alpha said.

“Understood,” Nina said.
Alpha returned to the bridge. She still wasn't sure what to make of what had happened with Nina. “Computer, resume Klingon opera playlist.”

“Affirmative.”

Hours later, Nina slipped into Sickbay from the side corridor (rather than the main corridor). “Computer, active Emergency Medical Hologram.”

“Please State the Nature of the Medical Emergency.”

“This doesn't make sense,” Graham said. “I mean, moving a city would take a lot of fuel.”

“You're right,” The Doctor said. She looked in the distance, and knew that Graham's point was about to be proved. “Look out there. You'll see a smaller mobile settlement.”

“Barely,” Ryan said.

“We're going to be a lot closer.”

Alpha knew Nina was restless. It was obvious she wanted to do more than review the Baffin crew's logs and help her get back to the right universe. She sighed. Closing the file on Klingon history she accessed the probe inventory. She could launch some of them to have a clandestine look at the closest of the continents.

The probe launched from the Baffin. Unlike the holograms aboard the ship, its AI was relatively simple. It wouldn't get bored, for a start. It left the Baffin and headed northwards. Two minutes later, it had left the island the ship had crashed on behind.

21 September, FA 1997
Daria walked with the Human girl she had met in the Self-Esteem class, Jane Lane, towards her house. She was amazed that Hobbitdale seemed to have a majority Hobbit population, whereas Highland was mostly human. ‘Hence the name, I guess,’ she thought. (She didn’t know what Beavis and Butthead were...)

Jane was speaking. “So, then, after the role-playing, next class they put the girls and the guys in separate rooms and a female counselor talks to us about body image.”

“What do they talk to the boys about?” Daria asked.

“A classroom full of guys and a male teacher?” Jane asked, looking at Daria incredulously.

They came to a stop “Nocturnal Emissions.”

“I don’t get it Jane. You've got the entire course memorized. How come you can't pass the test to get out?”

“I could pass the test, but I like having low self-esteem. It makes me feel special.”

‘Right,’ Daria thought. They turned into another street, this one with more Human style houses rather than the nearly ubiquitous Hobbit-holes.

“So, you’re a half-Elf?” Jane asked, turning to the tall girl beside her.

Daria was taken aback. “How did you know?” she asked.

“I noticed your ears. You may try to hide it, but they showed momentarily,” Jane said.

“Oops,” Daria said.

“Why hide your heritage?” Jane asked.

“My sister flaunts it,” Daria said.

“Oh!” Jane said.

They entered Jane’s house, a Victorian style farmhouse that had been overtaken by Hobbitdale’s urban expansion. Daria noticed a strange sculpture to the left of the path as she went in.

Half an hour later, after driving away a couple of Orcs whom had tried to foreclose on the Lanes (Jane’s parents were somewhere in Harafrica), Jane and Daria were eating pizza in the kitchen.

“So, your mother’s an Elf?” Jane asked.

“Yes,” Daria said, knowing that Jane wouldn’t consider Morgendorffer to be an Elven name.

“Is she like really old. Like, did she experience the Roman Empire or something like that?”

“No, she is much younger. She is a native born New Numenorean, born in the decades after the War of Independence,” Daria said.

“Still rather cool,” Jane said.

“Jane, it isn’t all glamorous. Elves are no different to Humans, Hobbits, Dwarves or even Orcs. The only difference is that they have uber-longevity,” Daria said.

“I guess so. Your family are the only Elves I know of in Hobbitdale,” Jane said, apologetically.

Daria smiled a Mona Lisa smile.

The two new friends continued to talk for a while prior to Daria going home.

Hobbitdale

Hobbitdale
The blue Lexus approached the High School. “Girls, I just want you to know your mother and I realise it's not easy moving to a whole new town -- especially for you, Daria, right?” Jake Morgendorffer said.

“Did we move?” his 15, almost 16, year old daughter, Daria, said with a touch of sarcasm, as she looked out at the houses, most of which seemed to be single story, with round front doors.

“I am just saying you don't make friends as easily as, uh, some people,” Jake said.

Music blared from the radio, ‘Dwarfish Mine Metal’ Daria thought. Her 17th months younger sister Quinn turned up the music. “Quinn for instance,” she said.

“That's not what I meant... necessarily,” Jake said, as he turned the radio off. “The point is, the first day at a new school is bound to be difficult...”

Daria leaned forward and cranked up the volume. “Speak up, Dad! Can't hear you!”

“Uh, where was I,” Jake asked as he pulled into the turning circle at the front of the school.

“Don't get upset if it takes the other kids a little while to warm up to you,” Jake said as he stopped.

Quinn got out of the car, ensuring that her long red hair was swept back enough so that her pointed ears, which showed her Half-Elven heritage, were not hidden.

Immediately she noticed that the majority of the students were Hobbits, though she could see the odd Human, Dwarf or even Orc here and there.

Two excellently dressed Hobbit-lasses greeted her. “Hi! You’re cool. What’s your name?” the one with her hair in pigtales asked.

Meanwhile, Daria slipped by unnoticed.

“Quinn Morgendorffer.”

“Cool name. But isn’t it a Human name?” the other asked.

“It’s my dad’s name. Mom’s the Elf,” Quinn said.

“Cool!” the first girl asked.

“What are your names?” Quinn asked.

“Stacia Rowan,” the one with the pig-tails said.

“Sandi Gamgee, would you like to join the Fashion Club?”

“Sure,” Quinn said.

Sandi Gamgee watched as the half-elven girl entered the school. A Half-Elf in the Fashion Club! Popularity would spike for sure!

...

The School Psychologist held the test in front of Daria. “Very good, Quinn! Now, Dora, let's see if you can make up a story as vivid as your sister's,”

“It’s Daria.”

“I’m sorry Daria. What do you see in the picture Diraa?”

“Um... a herd of beautiful wild unicorns running free across the plains.”

“Weapons and defence systems.”

“Yes. Phased Energy weapons, Phasers; and Quantum Torpedoes. Deflector shields to defend against enemy weapons fire. The latter had failed before the crash. They're now fully repaired.”

Nina knew Alpha was holding something back, most likely the status of the torpedo inventory, but didn't ask. “That's good,” she said, regarding the repair status of the shields.

Alpha pointed to the port console. “The Operations Console, where ships systems are monitored and the crew's activities managed.” She then walked back to the rear consoles.

The Doctor was about to go back into the TARDIS when Felicia came out. She sensed her state of mind immediately and knew that the TARDIS had imparted (or had tried to impart) something to her. That was something that hadn’t happened for a while, probably not more than once since her last regeneration. She looked at the other companions. she saw that all of them, more or less, knew that something was up with Felicia.
