Part 3
At the same time as the Morgendorffer-Thompson reconciliation and the discussion between Harris, Hecuba, Lane, Mackenzie and Taylor, there was another discussion on the topic of the Language Arts assignment.

Just before lunch, Quinn had asked Stacy and Josie to brainstorm between them the topic of their video while she talked to Kevin. They had agreed. They had sat with two others from their class who had been put into a group, Cindy Brolsma and Kristen Leung. The third member of their group hadn't shown up for some reason.

Cindy had already had an idea, and she had talked the others ears off about it, to review the various video games that students at Lawndale High were interested in. “I'm still not sure that Mr. O'Neill would accept it,” Josie said, after Cindy had talked for a while.

“I'm sure he will accept it,” Cindy said. “I mean, I will be going into what I think the meaning that the developers of each game are putting in their product.”

Josie thought for a moment. “Maybe,” she said.

“Besides, I will be doing the interviews,” Kristen added.

“Interviews?” Stacy asked nervously.

“Don't worry,” Kristen said, noticing Stacy's unease. “You don't have to be on tape if you don't want to.”

“Thanks,” Stacy said, reassured.

“Interviews?” Josie asked.

“I will be asking each person various questions. First question would be Kristen asking them for their favourite games. Then I'll ask more questions about why they like those games. After that I'll describe for each game what I said earlier,” Cindy explained.

“Good idea,” Stacy said.

“So, what is your idea?” Kristen asked.

“We haven't an idea yet!” Stacy said with slight panic.

“I have some ideas,” Josie admitted.

“What are these ideas?” Stacy asked.

“You didn't know?” Cindy asked.

“I've hadn't had time to tell her yet,” Josie said.

“I see,” Cindy said.

“So, what are they?” Stacy asked.

Josie then explained her ideas, far as she had figured them out.

“... And then you open the window and say, 'Life is a meaningless descent into the void.' Then you jump, and on the way down you scream, 'Now I understand, I understand everything,'” Daria said.

“That's quite existential,” Jennifer mused.

“That's the point!” Daria grumbled.

Jennifer smiled.

“Do I get to say something funny?” Jane asked.

Daria sighed.

After much brainstorming, the trio were still at a loss as to what to do. Finally, one of them had an idea.

“I know!” Daria said.

“What?” Jane asked.

“A day in the life of Quinn Morgendorffer!” Daria said.

“Huh?” Jennifer asked. “I don't think so,” she added.

“Sounds good,” Jane said.

“Why not, Jen?” Daria asked.

“You're biased against her,” Jennifer pointed out.

“That would be true,” Jane said.

Daria thought for a moment. “I need to think about this. We can't just do it tomorrow. We need to prepare,” she said.

“I agree,” Jane said.

“Good,” Jennifer said with a sigh of relief. “We'll also need her permission,” she added.

“Of course!” Jane said.

“I haven't forgotten that,” Daria said.

Lawndale
Monday,April 3, 2006
At the Morgendorffer's house, they were watching a home video, from Daria's third birthday.

Young Quinn blew out the birthday candle's first. “Hey! You're ruining my birthday cake!” Young Daria said.

“If only that were all she ruined,” Daria commented.

“Make her stop,” young Daria continued.

“Oh, Daria, she's just a baby. She wants to play too.”

“I was such a cute baby,” Quinn commented.

“Why can't I be an only child,” younger Daria said.

“Yeah, why can't I?” Daria repeated.

Video Assignment Chaos – Part 2
Day 2
At Lawndale High School, the first class of the day was in session. “...So, as an exercise in living literature you’ll all be making your own movies,” Mr. O’Neill said. “We have Brittany to thank for that exciting suggestion.”

“Great!” Brittany groused, rubbing her head.

“Relax,” Andrea instructed, with a worried tone.

“Now, before we split into movie making teams, who would like to direct?”

Almost the entire class put up their hands shouting, “Me! Me! Me!”

“Great!” Brittany groused again.

“Let’s try this again,” Mr. O’Neill said. “You can all take turns directing, but we still need teams.”

Video Assignment Chaos – Part 1
Brittany Taylor and her friend Andrea Hecuba arrived at one of Lawndale’s many small cinemas. “Ah, we’re just in time, Brit,” Andrea said.

“Good,” Brittany said. They were seeing a Russian art film from the 1930’s.

“Brit!”

Brittany turned. She saw someone she didn’t expect to see. Nor did she want to see him. It was Kevin Thompson. She had had a crush on him in Middle School. (And indeed, still did have a crush on him, but she didn’t want it!) He was there with Quinn Morgendorffer, his girlfriend.

“You’re doing it again,” Andrea said, with a concerned tone.

Brittany took her hand out of her short hair where she had been twirling a lock. “Oops!” she said as she smoothed her hair down. ‘I may need a cut,’ she thought, although that probably wouldn’t deal with the underlying issue; that it was the result of being nervous. “Let’s go in,” she said to Andrea, once she had calmed herself.

“Are you sure?” Andrea asked.

“Yes,” Brittany answered.

Kevin didn't see Brittany. )
