Video Assignment Chaos - Part 3
Nov. 17th, 2021 06:11 pmPart 3
At the same time as the Morgendorffer-Thompson reconciliation and the discussion between Harris, Hecuba, Lane, Mackenzie and Taylor, there was another discussion on the topic of the Language Arts assignment.
Just before lunch, Quinn had asked Stacy and Josie to brainstorm between them the topic of their video while she talked to Kevin. They had agreed. They had sat with two others from their class who had been put into a group, Cindy Brolsma and Kristen Leung. The third member of their group hadn't shown up for some reason.
Cindy had already had an idea, and she had talked the others ears off about it, to review the various video games that students at Lawndale High were interested in. “I'm still not sure that Mr. O'Neill would accept it,” Josie said, after Cindy had talked for a while.
“I'm sure he will accept it,” Cindy said. “I mean, I will be going into what I think the meaning that the developers of each game are putting in their product.”
Josie thought for a moment. “Maybe,” she said.
“Besides, I will be doing the interviews,” Kristen added.
“Interviews?” Stacy asked nervously.
“Don't worry,” Kristen said, noticing Stacy's unease. “You don't have to be on tape if you don't want to.”
“Thanks,” Stacy said, reassured.
“Interviews?” Josie asked.
“I will be asking each person various questions. First question would be Kristen asking them for their favourite games. Then I'll ask more questions about why they like those games. After that I'll describe for each game what I said earlier,” Cindy explained.
“Good idea,” Stacy said.
“So, what is your idea?” Kristen asked.
“We haven't an idea yet!” Stacy said with slight panic.
“I have some ideas,” Josie admitted.
“What are these ideas?” Stacy asked.
“You didn't know?” Cindy asked.
“I've hadn't had time to tell her yet,” Josie said.
“I see,” Cindy said.
“So, what are they?” Stacy asked.
Josie then explained her ideas, far as she had figured them out.
Josie's main idea was that they would shoot a brief anime inspired skit. “Cool!” Stacy gushed when she had finished.
“I agree,” Cindy said.
“What kind of anime is it?” Kristen asked.
“A classic,” Cindy answered. “Space Battleship Yamato.”
“It's a scifi?” Stacy asked.
“Yes,” Josie asnswered.
“I'm there!” Stacy said.
“I'm sure Quinn would agree,” Josie said.
“Sounds good!” Cindy said.
“So, what is that series about?” Kristen asked.
“About a crew using the Yamato to fight off aliens that had conquered the Earth,” Cindy answered.
“I see,” Kristen said.
“I'm confident that it'll work!”
“I'm sure you are,” Kristen reassurred her friend.
“Thanks,” Cindy said.
After she had reconciled with Kevin and talked with him for a while, Quinn then went to lunch.
She caught up with her friends as they were getting ready to leave. They filled her in on what they were doing, and on what Kristen and Cindy were doing.
“So, you agree?” Josie asked.
Quinn considered. “Yes. It is a great idea,” she said.
“Cool,” Josie said.
And so, that afternoon, Quinn and Josie went to Jake.
“You want to borrow the camcorder?” he asked in surprise.
“Yes, Daddy,” Quinn answered.
“What for?” he asked suspiciously.
“A school assignment,” Josie said, handing the sheet that O'Neill had given the class over.
“Oh, I see,” he said as he gave it a look over.
“So, can we have it?” Quinn asked.
“I'll go get it,” Jake said warily.
He soon returned with the camcorder. “First thing's first. This is a precious, very costly instrument. It's not the sort of thing one ordinarily lends a teenager,” he said.
“Yes, Daddy,” Quinn said.
“Not even Darian?” Josie asked.
“He has his own,” Quinn answered.
“And it's not as good as this one,” Jake added. “This has three focus modes.”
“Three?” Josie asked.
“Never underestimate the need for good focus at a distance,” Jake said.
“Right,” Quinn said.
“There's also a depth of field override,” Jake added.
“What's that for?” Quinn asked.
Jake launched into a detailed description of that particular feature, along with the auto-sleep, causing the two to go into auto-sleep themselves...
“So, you got all that?” Jake finally asked.
“Yes, Daddy,” Quinn said with a yawn.
“OK, Quinn, try not to use it too much,” Jake said.
“How much is too much?”
Jake sighed.
They then met up in Quinn's room. “Now, who to interview regarding the games first?” Cindy asked.
“Darian?” Kristen wondered.
“If he's home,” Quinn said.
“We could try,” Kristen said.
“Of course.”
They quickly found that Darian wasn't in his room, nor anywhere else in the house. “Scratch that,” Cindy said, once they were sure he wasn't there.
“Next, Jane Lane,” Kristen said.
“A good idea,” Quinn considered.
