Quinn’s Code 16 The Geek’s Expose – Part 2
“... And then you open the window and say, 'Life is a meaningless descent into the void.' Then you jump, and on the way down you scream, 'Now I understand, I understand everything,'” Daria said.

“That's quite existential,” Jennifer mused.

“That's the point!” Daria grumbled.

Jennifer smiled.

“Do I get to say something funny?” Jane asked.

Daria sighed.

After much brainstorming, the trio were still at a loss as to what to do. Finally, one of them had an idea.

“I know!” Daria said.

“What?” Jane asked.

“A day in the life of Quinn Morgendorffer!” Daria said.

“Huh?” Jennifer asked. “I don't think so,” she added.

“Sounds good,” Jane said.

“Why not, Jen?” Daria asked.

“You're biased against her,” Jennifer pointed out.

“That would be true,” Jane said.

Daria thought for a moment. “I need to think about this. We can't just do it tomorrow. We need to prepare,” she said.

“I agree,” Jane said.

“Good,” Jennifer said with a sigh of relief. “We'll also need her permission,” she added.

“Of course!” Jane said.

“I haven't forgotten that,” Daria said.

Jennifer and Jane arrived at the Morgendorffer's house before school. “Are you sure this is a good idea?” Jennifer asked as she pressed the doorbell.

“If Quinn has agreed, there's no problem,” Jane said.

Daria opened the door. “Just in time,” she said.

“Anything wrong?” Jennifer asked.

“My Dad has had his childhood videos transferred to DVD...”

“Oh...” Jane said.

“So, he's going to watch it tonight?” Jennifer asked.

“Yes,” Daria said with annoyance. “He's also going to narrate them.”

“Cruel and unsual!” Jane snarked.

“Anyway, we're off the subject, Quinn has agreed, that we could follow her tomorrow,” Daria said as she came outside.

“Cool,” Jane said.

“However, she wants to talk to her friends first. Especially the newer one, Stacy.”

“That's fair,” Jane allowed.

“Best not to film Stacy without her permission. She... panics easy,” Jennifer added.

“I see,” Daria said with annoyance.

Halfway to school, Quinn met her friend Cindy Brolsma first. “Daria's impossible!” she said after she and Cindy had greeted each other.

Cindy was used to such exclaimations by now. “What has she done now?” she asked.

“She wants to spend a whole day videoing me, as part of a project for Language Arts.”

“That's something...”

“I'm OK with it,” Quinn said. “But I'm more worried about Stacy.”

“That is reasonable,” Cindy said.

“Are you OK with it.”

“I'm worried about Stacy too,” Cindy said. “But otherwise, I'd be fine with it.”

“Yeah...”

“We'll see what she and Kristen say.”

Quinn nodded.

They met their friends Stacy Rowe and Kristen Leung-Bell at the School.

“Oh!” Stacy said once Quinn had explained everything.

“I can call it off if you want to,” Quinn said.

“Oh, Quinn, you don't have to,” Stacy said.

“Oh!”

“However, it just won't be an ordinary day,” Stacy continued. She had a thoughtful expression.

A similar idea seemed to come to Kristen. “Are you thinking what I'm thinking?” she asked.

“Maybe?” Quinn asked.

“A lot of playacting?” Cindy asked.

“Yes,” Stacy said.

“It'll take a lot of choreography, but it will work,” Cindy said, with a smile.

Quinn laughed. “We just have to come up with something that'll drive Daria crazy!”

“This afternoon, you can come over to my place, and we'll plan,” Kristen suggeted. The others all agreed.

The four friends arrived at Kristen's house at 4:00. Kristen unlocked the door and let them in. “Clearly, Mom is at work,” she said.

“Of course she'd be,” Stacy said.

“Usually, she's home by now,” Kristen clarified as she closed the door behind her. “She must have been called away.”

“Oh,” Stacy said.

“But she'll be home later,” Kristen said.

They went up stairs to Kristen's room. “Now, tomorrow...” She started.
“I'll come over and try to bore them with tonight's gaming session,” Cindy suggested.

“Would we have time for a gaming session tonight?” Quinn asked.

“Certainly,” Cindy said.

“Yeah, that's a good idea Cindy...” Stacy said.

Jennifer and Jane arrived at the Morgendorffer's house early. It was so early that Jennifer was the only one who made it there while awake. Jane had had coffee straight out of bed, but as soon as the Beetle had pulled out of Casa Lane's driveway she had gone back to sleep. Jennifer leaned across and lightly shook Jane. “Huh?” Jane asked as she awoke.

“We're at Daria's,” Jennifer said.

“Oh, Right,” Jane said. “I need another coffee.” She opened the door. “Whoa!”

“Yes, a sunrise,” Jennifer said as she got out of the car.

“It's going to be a long day!” Jane grumbled. Getting up at 5:30 was for bathroom breaks, not for going to friend's places super early.
