13 Aftermath and Investigations
At the Historia, various Lawndale High students were talking about what the previous night’s events meant.

Stacy Rowe was thankful that she was working, otherwise she would have been worrying about the possibility of another attack.

She came up to Jodie Landon and Mack Mackenzie, where they were conversing in a corner.

“…Like, it’s not likely to happen again, right?” Mack asked.

“The person wasn’t caught, so it is likely to happen again,” Jodie said. “I don’t like to admit this, but it seems that SpiderGirl did good. Her powers allowed her to evacuate a lot of people before she got distracted.”

“But how soon?” Stacy asked in her usual worried tone.

“That is the question,” Jodie said.

“And SpiderGirl is one person,” Stacy said.

“But Ninja Talon and the Shadow were there too,” Mack pointed out.

“True,” Stacy said. She took a deep breath. “May I take your order?”

“White tea,” Mack said.

“Black Coffee,” Jodie added.

“Sure. It will be a while.”

“Yes, that’s me,” Brittany admitted. She waited to see what SpiderGirl would do next. Whether she would also reveal her secret identity or not.

“I guess I have no choice,” SpiderGirl said. She then pulled off her mask.

“Quinn?” Brittany asked. If she had thought that either of the Morgendorffer girls to be SpiderGirl, it would have been more likely to be Daria.

“So now you know. I’m SpiderGirl,” Quinn said. She produced a web and swung over Brittany. “See!”

“I see,” Brittany said.

“But why did you decide to become Ninja Talon?”

“It’s a long story. You became SpiderGirl after your father died, right?”

“That’s right.”

“As you know, I was already thinking about fighting crime, that night after the agents visited and DeMartino was arrested,” Brittany said as she started into her story.

Flashback – The Lawndale Files
It was our conversation after the rest of the group went home that made me decide that I would help you fight the increasing crime in Lawndale.

Brittany watched as SpiderGirl headed back in the direction they had come from Howard Drive, where the Lane’s lived. As she walked home through Crewe Neck she thought more on what she had asked the superheroine about. ‘What is it like being a hero, fighting crime?’ she had asked.

And the response; “Difficult. But the thanks I get from the people rescued from muggers make it more than worth it.”

That someone had died wasn’t good. Brittany looked around. She was sure she was alone. She then jogged home.

“Brittany? You’re home early,” Ashley-Amber Taylor noted as her stepdaughter entered the lounge room.

“I need to ask you something,” Britttany responded in a serious tone.

“What is it?”

“You know martial arts, right?”

“Yes,” Ashley-Amber answered. “But what brought this on.”

“Nothing in particular.”

“You just want to improve, is that it?”

“Yes,” Brittany answered.

“I’m sure there are Dojos in Lawndale.”

“If not, I could go to the one I went to before in Oakwood, or one in Middlebury.”

“Of course,” Ashley-Amber said. “They’re not too far away.”

06 The Lawndale Files Part 1
It was Assembly time at Lawndale High. Principal Angela Li came to the podium. “Settle down, young people! Now, before the varsity interpretive dance team begins its performance – ‘History, We Are You’ -- we have a brief announcement from some special guests, agents...”

She was interrupted by the agents. “No names,” the male agent said.

“No credentials,” the female agent added.

“Students, we'll be brief. We've received some disturbing reports from this town, and we're asking for your cooperation.”

“Keep your eyes open. Watch for people who are different. They know who they are.”

“And with your help, kids, so will we.”

Quinn Morgendorffer was concerned. ‘I guess I’ll have to be more careful as SpiderGirl,’ she considered. ‘Maybe I shouldn’t have been in Freemont on the weekend.’ Things in Lawndale were getting worse. ‘Maybe?’

That afternoon Daria and Jane were thinking about the Assembly as they watched television.

“From outer space to in your face! Aliens walk among us! A Sick, Sad World exclusive.”

“Oh, look, they're going to explain the return of disco,” Daria said.

“The aliens aren't coming. They're already here. They could be your friends, your family. They act almost normal, but something's off.”

“Yes, the TV!” Jane said, annoyed. “If there were any aliens smart enough to come here, they wouldn't be stupid enough to come here.”

“There goes my trick ear again. What was that?”

Troubles of Invitation
Brittany Taylor was having difficulty in Art. She liked drawing in art, but she always had difficulty drawing three dimensional pictures. She sighed and tried to draw a cube again. She did it again! It was all wonky! “Ms. Defoe!”

The teacher came over. “Having trouble?” she asked.

“Yes! I can’t seem to get the cube right!”

Defoe looked at Brittany’s work so far. “Have you heard of single point perspective?”

“Um… Maybe?” Brittany responded.

The teacher sighed. “Try to imagine a point somewhere.”

“Um, sure,” Brittany said. She chose a spot above the paper.

“Now use that as a point to draw the edges of the cube towards.”

“OK,” Brittany said.

“I’ll come back later and see how you do.”

It took Brittany most of the class time to figure it out. Defoe returned and saw her work. “You did well!”

“Thanks.”

After class... )
Brittany approached Daria’s hospital room. (She wasn’t sure what to make of the orderly’s references to ‘Mrs. Sullivan’.) She heard Jane speaking. “…They probably haven't even noticed you’re gone.”

She entered the room. “Daria?”

Daria was surprised. “Brittany? What are you doing here?”

She twirled a few strands of her loose hair. “Um, I just wanted to thank you for not going back on our deal, and I thought I might find Jane here and tell her I did kind of go back on our deal, but I also kind of went back on your part of our deal so there's no use in you doing that.”

“We had a deal?” Jane asked.

“And to see how you were,” Brittany added, ignoring Jane’s question. “Um, you're kind of red.” The lighting in the night club was a lot dimmer than in that hospital room.

“Yes, but I’m probably okay,” Daria said.

“Great!” Brittany said.

“What was our deal?” Jane asked.

Brittany was about to answer when Mack and Jodie entered. They must have arrived at the hospital straight after her.

“Daria?” Jodie asked.

“What are you doing here?” Daria asked as Jodie and Mack went over to her.

“Well, Brittany said you had some brain fever or something, but you weren't in the hospital. So, I kept asking Jane, who finally admitted you had a rash and you were in the hospital.”

‘Oops!’ Brittany thought.

“So, we just figured we'd come down here and see for ourselves how you were,” Mack added.

“I’m probably OK,” Daria admitted.

“So, that’s cool,” Mack said.

“For a human lobster,” Daria added.

“Oh, so you're a little red. It could happen to anybody,” Jodie said.

Mack gave her a look, looking at her and himself.

‘Of course, it wouldn’t be as obvious on them,’ Brittany thought.

“Well, it could happen to lots of people,” Jodie added.

Quinn entered Daria's hospital room. )
In fact, Quinn wasn't far away. “Oh!” she said when she realised when she saw the house up the street.

“What?” Sandi asked in response.

Quinn shook her head. She would deal with it. “Nevermind.”

Sandi gave a dubious expression. Quinn knew she was thinking how to turn the situation to her advantage.

Stacy noticed the strange lawn ornament as she walked up to the front door, along with the rather long grass. 'Why haven't they mowed?' she wondered as she knocked on the door.

The door was opened by Mack. “Quinn?”

“Hi Mack!” Quinn said.

“Your sister is here.”

“Cousin.”

“I'm rather sure she's your sister.”

“Daria isn't, but like, of course she's here! It's Jane's place.”

“You've been here before?” Mack asked in a curious tone.

“Yes,” Quinn admitted.

Party at 111 Howard – Part 4
Andrea sneaked out of her house, as she usually did. She then headed towards Howard Drive... She hoped to have some kind of fun.

Back at the Blum-Deckler's, Tiffany had finally chosen something that she thought was close enough to perfect. “Six Fourty,” Sandi said, once her friend had dressed.

“We can get there just after seven,” Quinn said.

“That's a good time,” Sandi said.

“Perfect,” Tiffany responded.

Angie arrived at the house in Howard Drive. 'Gosh! This place needs work!' she thought as she walked up the path. She knocked on the door. Brittany answered it. “Hi, Brittany.”

“Angie. You haven't seen Kevin, have you? He's supposed to be here by now.”

“I haven't,” Angie admitted.

“I hope he hasn't forgotten!” Brittany exclaimed.

“He could have,” Angie said.

“Come, I'll introduce you to the hostess,” Brittany said.

Angie nodded.

'Jane?' )
Part 4

After distracting Kevin from the chips, Brittany again looked for Daria. She soon found her in a corner. ‘Of course!’ She went over to her. “Daria?”

Daria started. “Eap!”

‘Oops!’ Brittany thought. She didn’t think Daria would easily be frightened. “Sorry!”

“Oh, Brittany,” Daria said with her hand over her heart. I thought it might have been that Chuck!”

“You mean, Upchuck?”

“How apt! Yes!”

“Sorry that you had to encounter him here!” Brittany said.

“It wasn’t your fault.”

“Actually…” Brittany said awkwardly.

“What?” Daria interrupted.

“He did me a favor too,” Brittany admitted.

“So, you invited him,” Daria concluded. She could see why Brittany was apologetic.

Brittany nodded.

“I think I have had enough,” Daria said. She leaned against the wall and slid down to a sitting position.

“You want to leave?”

“Yes,” Daria said. “Could you make sure Quinn doesn’t cause trouble?”

“Maybe,” Brittany answered. “But how are you going to get home?”

“I’m not sure.”

“Some of the others have older brothers or sisters. They could help.”

“That would be good,” Daria said. “But be quick.”

“Of course.”

Brittany found Mack and Jodie again. )
