“I haven’t a clue,” Peter said.

“There isn’t much data here,” the Doctor said. “He turned to Peter. What do you know about Middleton, Colorado? That’s where it leads, a few years in the future.”

“I’m not familiar with it,” Peter answered.

“I guess we have to deal with this on this end,” the Doctor said.

“I think I could have a closer look at that thing,” Peter decided.

“Sure,” the Doctor said. “We can go back there rather quickly.”

“Let’s go,” Quinn said.

“Wait!” Daria said.

“What?” Quinn asked her sister.

“It’s four twenty,” Daria explained. “Sunrise is in two hours,”

“Plenty of time,” Quinn said in a dismissive tone and with a wave of her hand.

“I’ll make sure she gets to school,” Peter said.

“Good. Because I need more sleep,” Daria said with a yawn.

“I’ll meet you at breakfast,” Quinn said.

Twenty minutes later, the Doctor, Quinn and Peter were at the building where the device was.

“Notice anything different?” Peter asked.

“Nothing,” Quinn answered.

“Not from the outside,” the Doctor added. “We’ll have to go in again.”

“Of course.”

Peter watched as the Doctor used his sonic device to unlock the door. ‘It’s certainly advanced,’ he thought.

As they entered the building. He surreptitiously shot a web to close the door after them.

“What was that?” Quinn asked.

“Nothing,” Peter said. He saw that the Doctor didn’t notice. ‘She must have good hearing,’ he thought.

“Right,” Quinn said.

“Here it is,” the Doctor said.

“I haven’t seen anything like it,” Peter said as he looked at the energy device.

“But maybe UNIT has?” Quinn asked.

“I’ll look into it,” Peter said. “But no promises.”

“Good,” the Doctor said.

Peter brought out a DSLR camera and began taking photos.

“That’s a cool camera,” Quinn said with appreciation.

“Thanks,” Peter said. “Photography is one of my hobbies. Usually, I take photos of other things. Like the architecture of New York, or the plants in Central Park.”

“Not just those I expect,” the Doctor said.

“Sometimes there are costumed vigilantes in front of the buildings,” Peter said with a shrug. That was all he was going to say about that, although he suspected that the Doctor knew his secret. He turned back to Quinn. “It has film, but it also has a digital mode.”

“Cool.”

“I can also use my cell phone to send the digital photos back to UNIT.”

“That’s so interesting,” Quinn said.

The Doctor cleared his throat.

“I’ll do it now,” Peter said.

It was a while before there was a response from UNIT. “I’ve looked into it,” Agent Phil Coulson said.

“And?”

“There is no record of such a device on file. The Brigadier has given you and the Doctor carte blanche to investigate.”

“Understood,” Peter said.

“I’ll look more into it on my end, Coulson out.”

He turned back to the Doctor and Quinn. “As you’ve heard. They have no idea,” Peter said.

“Back to the TARDIS,” the Doctor decided.

“Doctor?” Quinn asked.

“While I did do a scan while we were there it wasn’t a very intensive scan. Plus, it can scan backwards to the moment the Portal was activated.”

“It wasn’t scanning then?” Peter asked.

“Not in a way that was helpful,” the Doctor admitted.

Back at the TARDIS, the Doctor ran the scan. “Gravitational Waves, but that was already established.”

“Anything else?” Quinn asked.

“The connection to Middleton was made from this side,” the Doctor commented as he looked over the data.

“But that would be obvious,” Peter interjected. “Given that the machine is here.” He took a closer look at the scan data. He could only understand some of it. ‘How far ahead of us are the Time Lords?” he wondered, not for the first time.

“Yes, but there could be another machine there. Or a future version of the one here. Either way. It’s going to take us a while to analyse this data.” He turned to Quinn. “It would be a good time to go to sleep. You can get a couple of hours before breakfast.”

Quinn thought for a moment. “Sure, but It would be more like an hour and a half. It takes me a while to get ready after all.”

As the Sun began to rise over Lawndale, it began to set in Middleton. Kim looked at the dual twilight as she approached the portal. She wondered why it had been set up in such a manner. “So, it is shortly after six thirty here,” Ron said.

“Yes,” Kim said.

“So, it would be around six in the morning there?” Ron asked.

“More like six twenty,” Kim clarified.

“Right. But most people wouldn’t be up yet.”

“Maybe not, but we’re going to take our time.”

“Of course. But breakfast instead of dinner. Not good!”

“We’ll be back for a late dinner,” Kim said as she entered the portal.
