Excerpt from: Meeting Strider
“Mr. Strider may have an honest explanation for spying and eavesdropping; but if so, I should advise you to explain it.”

“Well answered,” Strider responded. “But the explanation is simple: I was looking for a Hobbit called Frida Baggins. I wanted to find her quickly. I had learned that she was carrying something out of the Shire, well, a secret that concerned me and my friends.”

Excerpt from: Victoria and the Sabotage
Victoria Calder didn’t expect to be investigating sabotage of a play she had a role in. But after yet another broken prop was handed to her in rehearsal she decided to take matters into her own hands.

“That’s it!” she declared in her dramatic fashion. “I’m going to find out who is responsible for this! They dare spoil my moment.”

One of the other actresses startled. “Victoria?” she asked.

“Yes, Miranda?” she asked the timid girl.

“You sound like that art student,” the girl, Miranda, asked.

That surprised Victoria. There was an art student hanging around? “Art student?”

“Yes, I think her name is Scarlett. She thinks it’s sabotage too.”

“Where is she?”

“Right away,” Jerry answered.

Sam, Clover and Alex arrived in the town an hour later. “Ugh. I forgot about the time zones,” Clover said, as looked at the town’s clock tower.

“Remember…” Sam began.

“Eastern Time is three hours ahead of Pacific,” Clover said. “But there would probably be hardly anyone at the theater.”

Sam looked ahead at where the theater was surprised. “I think you would be surprised.”

Alex looked at the theater. The building had retained it’s Art Deco looks, which she appreciated. More modern theater buildings were blegh in her opinion.

Excerpt from: Scarlett Investigates
“Victoria balled her hands into fists and started to screech.”

Scarlett resisted the urge to block her ears . It was too much. ‘Not an overload, not now!’ she thought. “Alright,” she said. “You can help.”

Victoria calmed down and wiped her tears with a handkerchief embroidered with her initials. “Thanks,” she said.

Scarlett was still little overwhelmed. “What have you noticed so far?” she asked as she fidgeted with her sketchbook.

“Some things,” Victoria answered. “We can talk in my dressing room.”

“That would be good.”

Victoria’s dressing room was chaotic, but it was quieter than the backstage complex outside. Scarlett relaxed a bit, although she was still overstimulated.

She sat on one of the side chairs. “Now, what do you know?”

He heard SpiderGirl swing down.

“Predictable.”

“Really?” SpiderGirl quipped as she signalled.

Osborn leapt aside as one of the Enigma’s energy projections shot past.

“That was a warning,” Dafoanairi said.

“We’re at an impasse,” Osborn responded. “But this is temporary.”

“I know that,” SpiderGirl said. “But you said something about Sunrise earlier.”

“No comment,” Osborn responded.

“Then we’ll continue this impasse and make sure that whatever is there won’t be exposed to the sunlight,” SpiderGirl said.

“As I said…” Osborn started.

“Yes, more agents coming from Lawndale,” Dafoanairi interrupted. “But enough to overwhelm us?”

“A Kazon liver amongst organs of unknown function from other species.”

“Why would organs be hidden on a planetoid with a fake dilithium reading?” Kes asked.

“It’s almost certainly a trap,” Voyager answered. She turned to Neelix. “Have you heard of any species that would do this kind of thing.”

“There are the Vidiians, but there are mostly rumors. Besides, we’re still a lot closer to Kazon space than to theirs,” Neelix answered.

“I can do that.”

“Really?” Freya asked with a glare. “You don’t understand me at all.”

“Nor I,” Janara said. “What you think are weaknesses are really strengths.”

“The five of us may be enough,” Dafoanairi said to the Enigma a few minutes later. “But I still have no idea who the Shadow is, nor how to contact her.”

“And attempting to locate her would require me to be back in Lawndale, probably as far as the Giant Strawberry if she happens to be in on the eastern side of Lawndale Flats.”

“Probably not that far,” Dafoanairi said. “It’s only slightly less than two miles between the Historia and the Giant Strawberry.”

“But, still, I’d need to be at least be on the western edge,” the Enigma asked.

“What about your mentor?” Dafoanairi asked quietly, knowing that SpiderGirl, at least, was listening in.

“She’d likely be asleep,” the Enigma answered.

“We’re on our own,” SpiderGirl said. “Besides which other vigilantes Oakwood might have.”

“It’s up to us five,” Ninja Talon said. “We can handle it.”

I’m the only one in Oakwood as far as I know the silent vigilante signed.

“What was that?” Ninja Talon asked.

“That she’s the only one in Oakwood as far as she knows.”

“It’s still quite vivid,” Quinn said, closing her eyes tighter. “It was, like, a betrayal.”

“You want to talk more about that?”

“I think I explained it last night.”

“You did, but you didn’t say the word ‘betrayal’ then,” Jane responded.

“I didn’t?” Quinn asked as she continued to run her hands over the painting.

“No.”

“I thought they were simply friends rather than frenemies,” Quinn responded, tears escaping her closed eyes.

“That’s what you think,” Freya said with a glance at Janara.

“Oh! I beg to differ.”

“What you see as weakness we see as strengths,” Janara responded.

“Let’s see about that,” Claudian responded. “You have walked right into my trap..”

“Wrong,” Freya said, as she bounced. “We have trapped you.”

“We’ll see,” Claudian said as he tapped something on his tablet.

Several things happened at once. A loud screeching sound came out of the room’s speakers.

Freya then pulled her noise cancelling headphones over her ears, and started dancing.

Janara tapped something on her own tablet. Her anxiety ebbed as she masked as her gamer persona ‘Janablade. “There is something you don’t underatand,’ she said as she tapped some commands.

“And what is that?” Claudian asked.

“That we live with our quirks, our neurodivergent traits,” Freya said as she danced. She was focused on the movement. Using that to ground herself against the noise.

The silent vigilante shrugged.

It wasn’t long before another Oscorp vehicle approached. The Enigma shot at it’s engine compartment with projections, causing the engine to stall before telekinetically letting the air out of the tyres. “That will slow things down,” she said to Dafoanairi.

“A little,” Dafoanairi admitted. “But not by much,” she added as five more agents emerged from the stalled vehicle. “And I’m sure there’s more equipment and weapons in there.”

“Now that they’re out, I can crush it.”

“It may be reinforced.”

The Enigma focused and the vehicle began to crumple around the door handles.

Osborn heard the vehicle crumble. Then there was an explosion.
