Excerpt from: Berk in Time
There was a sound. They all knew that sound. There was at least one Monstrous Nightmare approaching.

“Run!” Hiccup cried out.

“Is there a ladder up?” Snotlout asked.

“I don’t see one,” Spitelout said, ready to defend against the Nightmare if he had to.

“Just run!” Hiccup said.

They soon found themselves in an adjacent room. “The Nightmare isn’t following,” Hiccup said.

“But what is this stuff?” Spitelout asked.

Hiccup wasn’t sure. It was probably an office of some kind, for the use of the ship’s blacksmith. But what parchments he could see, he still didn’t understand. Then there was another sound. It wasn’t the Nightmare. It was more metallic.

“What’s that?” Snotlout asked.

“No idea,” Hiccup answered. As he turned in that direction he saw what looked like a man in a suit.

“We’re very annoyed with you,” it said.

Meanwhile the others were moving through the upper levels of the ship, trying to find their missing cohort. They entered a room that looked like some sort of onboard farm. At least according to Fishlegs.

“Looks like no one has tended to it for quite a while,” Astrid commented in response.

Excerpt from: Inviting Trouble
“Yes!” Brittany answered. “Just this once, though.”

“Gee, Brittany. I'm overcome with emotion.”

“You need a napkin? Anyway, I promised the other cheerleaders that I wouldn't invite any more really attractive girls.”

“Now I'm especially flattered,” Daria said her sarcasm thick.”

“Don’t mention it!” Brittany said as she went off with her lunch.

As the day continued Daria thought about it. In her experience, teenagers at parties were prone to self-destructive behaviour. But that was in Highland, a dying town. Lawndale was different, more vibrant, but it too wasn’t exactly a healthy community. By the end of the school day she had decided to see what the situation was.

Jane Lane waited as Daria looked through her sketchbook.

“These are really good. I didn't know you studied life drawing.”

“Yeah, last summer,” Jane commented as she painted a firm stroke.

“You’re really bursting out of the picture plane here!”

Jane looked. “That particular model was quite bursty. I think she had her bursts done.”

“Speaking of which, Brittany invited me to her party this weekend.”

Jane was sure that Brittany’s figure was natural but she didn’t correct Daria. “No kidding, are you going?”

“I’m uncertain,” Daria admitted. “I’m not usually up for parties.”

“I sense a ‘but’ coming.”

“I’m also curious as to how different it would be from back in Texas.”

Daria had yet to tell her the name of the town she had come from, but Jane didn’t want to press. “Well, you could go and see. Then you probably won’t be compelled to go to future parties by as much curiosity.”

“That’s a good point,” Daria considered.
