Once through the portal they looked around. The Doctor with the sonic and Quinn with the binoculars. There weren’t any people nearby. The area was a park similar to the park in Lawndale. “We need to find out where this is,” the Doctor mused.

Quinn nodded. “That should be easy,” she said, although she knew that things weren’t always easy.

“Look for some signs,” the Doctor said.

Quinn nodded and wandered off, making sure to take note of landmarks. The portal was large, but some of the trees were taller than it. She soon found a sign. “Memorial Park.” That didn’t tell her much. Given the way the TARDIS translation worked she wasn’t even sure it was in English. She sighed, but she did see a street in the distance. She was sure to figure out where this was over there.

The Doctor also looked around for a clue as to where they were. He looked at the vegetation in the park. It was very similar to the vegetation back in Lawndale. ‘Not very conclusive,’ he thought. It may well be an American city, but then it could still be anywhere on Earth in the 20th or 21st Centuries. He saw that many of the species were rather common for Earth parks. He looked back at the portal and could see the dark patch of sky over Lawndale.

Quinn approached the street. She could see many signs. “Middleton, this. Middleton that. I guess the place is called Middleton. But that doesn’t tell me much,” she murmured. She figured that she would need a map to know where this Middleton was, and a newspaper to find out the date. She saw that one of the stores along the street opposite the park was a newsagent. ‘That will do.’

The Doctor looked around the portal again. There were no further clues. It did look the same as it did in Lawndale.

Quinn returned to the park and looked at the newspaper. “Middleton Express. 21st August 2003.” The future, approximately four years after her time. “Right.” She also looked at the map.

Middleton, Colorado Map.

“Colorado,” Quinn considered. That did help, so she went back towards the portal to tell the Doctor.

The Doctor saw Quinn coming in the distance. ‘She must have found something.’

“Doctor!” Quinn said as she came up holding out a newspaper and map.

“You’ve found where we are?” he asked, as he took the newspaper. “Middleton. There are many towns called Middleton.”

“I guessed so,” Quinn said. She then handed the map to the Doctor.

“Colorado,” he said. “In 2003, but is it our 2003?”

“We could find a library and look up Lawndale?” Quinn suggested.

“There could be Spoilers for you that way,” the Doctor pointed out.

“As long as I don’t find out too much,” Quinn said with a shrug. “We could also ask Daria to go to the TARDIS and check for Middleton there.”

“A good idea,” the Doctor considered. “Back to the portal.”

Daria had only waited a little more than half an hour when Quinn and the Doctor emerged from the portal. “See, didn’t take that long at all,” the Doctor said.

“So, where does it lead?” Daria asked.

“Middleton, Colorado,” Quinn answered. “In the future. But we’re not sure it’s the same Earth.”

The Doctor handed Daria a key. “We’d like you to go to the TARDIS and look up Middleton, while we go back and look up Lawndale.”

“But who will watch the portal?” Daria asked.

The Doctor looked in thought. “I will watch the portal while you investigate,” he answered.

“Are you up to it, Quinn?” Daria asked.

“Of course, I am!” Quinn said. “Travelling with the Doctor has helped me broaden my horizons.”

“Just making sure,” Daria added.

“And I got a map of Middleton. I will be able to find the Library there.”

“It would probably take me longer to get home and use the TARDIS’s systems,” Daria said.

“True,” the Doctor said.

“Then I’ll go now,” Daria said. “Be careful, Sis.”

“Of course.”

The Doctor watched the Morgendorffers walk away as he stood next to the portal on the Lawndale side. It was going to be boring to be waiting for them. He sighed and scanned the edge of the portal with the sonic. That didn’t tell him anything more than what he already knew.

The Middleton Public Library was quite close to the park, so Quinn got there less than ten minutes after leaving the portal the second time. “Now, where would information on Lawndale be?” she wondered as she approached the Non Fiction shelves. ‘Would it be somewhere in that 900 section?’ She saw a girl her age nearby. “Excuse me.”

The girl, who had hair very similar to Quinn’s, responded. “Yes?”

“I’m looking for information on a town in an East Coast state,” Quinn answered.

“There are many books on the east coast states,” the girl responded. “Which state are you looking at?”

“Maryland,” Quinn answered.

“Thanks,” the other girl said. “Come this way.”

The girl handed Quinn a book on Maryland. “Thanks, um…”

“Kim. You’re Welcome.”

“Quinn,” she said, indicating herself. “See ya.”

As she walked away, Quinn heard a strange cell phone ringtone and Kim answering it with “What’s the ‘sitch?”

Kim Possible was happy to help the unfamiliar girl find a book on Maryland. Little did she know that she would be meeting her again rather soon. Her Kimmunicator rang. “What’s the ‘sitch?”

“Something strange has been spotted in the Middleton Memorial Park,” Wade Load said. An image of that ‘something’ was then shown.

Kim looked at it. She couldn’t tell much. “I’ll find Ron and we’ll be right there,” she said, referring to her friend and partner, Ron Stoppable.

Quinn opened the book to the index. “Let’s see; Lawndale.” She quickly found that Lawndale was indeed in the index. ‘But that doesn’t mean anything,’ she thought as she opened to pages listed. ‘It could be a different version.’ She read the information on Lawndale and looked at the map. It matched what she knew, although there were more streets being built around the edges. ‘Cool,’ she thought. She put the book back and headed back towards the Park.

Kim arrived at the Beuno Nacho, where Ron usually hung out. “Ron?” she called.

Ron Stoppable, and his pet Naked Mole Rat ,Rufus were eating tacos at a nearby table? “Kim?” Ron asked.

“Something has come up,” Kim said. “Right here in Middleton.”

Ron stood up. “Drakken?”

“Not Drakken. Wade isn’t sure what it is, but whatever it is, it’s in the Memorial Park,” Kim responded.

“The Memorial Park? We’re there!”
