Excerpt from: The Engineer and the Time Lady
It seemed that most Earth’s the Baffin crew had encountered were rather similar until then, with most of the divergences in history between the universes occurring during the course of that century. She wasn’t sure why that would be the case, considering that other star systems varied widely. Earth was a constant. She sighed. She wasn’t sure she was ready to exploring Earth in whatever state it might be.
But she was going to try, so as to contribute to the crew of Baffin, such as it was.

“Approaching the Sol System now, Alpha,” the ENH reported.

“Full scan,” Alpha reported.

“Aye,” Nina said.

“Planetary positions…” Nina said a few minutes later. “Early May 1998.”

“And the broadcasts?” Alpha asked.

“May 8, 1998.”

Baffin dropped out of warp and hid behind the Moon before launching probes. “It seems that the level of technology is usual for this time period,” Nina reported several minutes later. “The internet isn’t that well developed yet.”

“Not like my world in my time,” Aialah commented.

“It’s about two decades behind, I would say,” Nina added.

“Anything unusual?” Alpha asked.

“Looks like it’s unclaimed, sir,” Lieutenant Tasha Yar said.

“Splendid,” Picard said. “Prepare an Away Team, Number One.”

“Aye, sir,” Riker said.

Ten minutes later, Riker, Lieutenant Deanna Troi, Leftler and Collier entered Transporter Room 3. “Ready for Transport, sir,” Chief Miles O’Brien reported.

“Your opinion on the beam down site?” Riker asked.

“In my opinion, it is a perfect place to begin a planetary survey, sir.”

“Excellent,” Riker said. He joined the rest of the team on the transporter pads. “Energize.”

The Away Team materialised in a meadow.

“Not really,” Stacy murmured.

“Stacy…” Quinn prompted with concern.

“Yes!” Stacy said. “Not in so many words of course. But in her expressions when I mention it!”

“I’m going to have to talk to her,” Quinn groused.

Stacy was alarmed. “No! That will make it worse!” she said while waving her arms.

“Something needs to be done,” Quinn said. “It’s not right that she’s giving you a hard time.”

Stacy nodded.

“I saw something wrong, I tried to deal with it.”

“There is nothing wrong here, Ms. Barksdale.”

“I would hope that is the truth, Ms. Li,” Daria said.

“I will be keeping an eye on you. That is what I was saying!” the principal said.

“I know Andrea will be home,” Kristen said.

“And how far away is her place?” Quinn asked.

“Not very far,” Kristen answered.

It took another fifteen minutes for them to walk the two blocks to Andrea's place. It looked ominous. “Looks foreboding,” Quinn commented.
