Independence Day: Resurgence

39 Independence Day
Rewatch. Large alien spaceships arrive above many major cities around the world, thus setting into motion a series of events that will determine humanity's destiny. Will they be wiped out, or would they prevail? The response of the United States government to the crisis is presented very well (as is the President's response to David's discovery, once the personal problems are put aside). However, the aliens themselves are inscrutable (as they should be). The various personal conflicts all add to the plot, rather than detract.
For instance, the plight of the First Lady, is shown quite well, with the President reacting in a way that one would expect (although their daughter is rather stoic about it). David's history with the President and the Press Liason is also presented well. As is his abilities. (Although, creating a virus to drop the alien's shields is a bit much.) However, it is Will Smith's character who takes the cake. (Would a USAF pilot really get away with marrying a stripper, despite the situation at hand?) There is also the abduction survivor.
It is left up in the air whether or not he was actually abducted (or whether this specific species was responsible). However, whatever the truth of the matter is (within the story, of course), he was obviously affected in a negative way. In any event he is willing to sacrifice himself to take out the ship attacking Area 51. Overall it is a well presented film. 8/10.
