A New Generation – Fear Response
Deanna Troi entered sickbay. “Come here, Deanna,” Dr. Beverley Crusher said. “One oversight Starfleet hasn’t really considered. There isn’t a trained veterinarian aboard.”
“There isn’t?” Deanna asked. Typical of Starfleet to have such an oversight, even though officers had had pets aboard their ships since Archer’s voyages.
“And learning the anatomy of most of the sentient species in the Federation and it’s friendly neighbors doesn’t really qualify one to treat pets either,” Beverley went on.
“So, you’re saying you don’t know how to treat it?”
“Exactly.”
Deanna looked at the strange creature she had bought back at Farpoint. She regretted buying it. (Or her, or him. Beverley hadn’t been able to determine its sex.) She suspected it was the influence of the creature that had posed as Farpoint that caused her to buy it. But now it was dying. “You haven’t been able to determine what could be affecting it?”
“It could be anything.”
“Thanks for trying.”
The door opened again and the Chief Engineer, Lt. Commander Geordi La Forge entered.
