'Author of salvation'

Hebrews 12:1 - 3

Genesis 22
Matthew 26:21
1 Corinthians 11:26

Hebrews 12
A danger for us - the risk of giving up.
"Don't give up!"

When Christian values clash with those of the culture

In Christian life, you will get knocked down. It's how you get up that counts.
Don't be discouraged. Don't give up.
vs. 1
The witnesses are those mentioned in the previous chapter and all the Christians who lived before you.
"You can finish the race!"
Faith is worth it!
Obstacles need to be thrown away.
We can take on stuff that can hinder us.
If it hinders - throw it off.
Race - Gr. Agon (Root for Agony)
The Christian race can feel like it, but keep going!
Jesus endured and persevered through the Agony of the Cross, so that we might be saved.

vs. 2
Jesus designed the race, but he also completed it first.

'Come to the water'

Are you preparing for your life in heaven?

vs 3
Practical needs need to be met.

vs 4
Marriage needs to be maintained.
'Date night' with your spouse - a night of marriage maintenance, talking about the issues.

vs 5 - 6

Psalm 148
'Praise Him You Heavens'
'My Jesus, My Saviour'

Genesis 4:1 - 16

'The Splendour of the King'
'Thank you for the Cross'

Genesis 4:1 - 16
Abel - Shepherd
Cain - Crop farmer
God regarded Abel over Cain for a reason.
The Law cannot be applied retroactively to this situation.
It was about Cain's attitude.
Cain's Anger - He was visibly upset.

What was Cain's attitude?
- God knew what it was.
- He was encouraging Cain to take the right path.

The Bible - God's word
- A warning! Be on your guard. Sin is at your door.

vs 9
God asked a rhetorical question.
- He gave Cain a chance to come to Him in repentance.
- Cain straight out lied to God!
- "Am I my brother's keeper?"
- An insult directed in Abel's direction.
- There was no repentence in Cain's heart.

Hosea 14: 1 - 2

We are called to have a repentent attitude.
Sin is lurking at the door.

God's Punishment of Cain.
- An Extension of the Judgement on Adam and Eve.
Cain is selfish, but God shows him mercy and grace.
- No where is that mercy and grace shown than at the Cross.

Self centredness
- Sin lurking at the door!

'Third Day - Communion'

Is there an attitude in your life you have to get rid of?

'Your Grace is enough'

Genesis 11:1 - 9

Genesis 11:1 - 9

Verse 1
They could talk and communicate with each other.

Genesis 10, 11 - not in chronological order. The Chronological order isn't important.

Verse 2
They worked together and migrated to Shinar

East
- Adam and Eve banished from the Garden in that direction
- Cain banished in that direction
- The people had migrated in that direction (symbollically, further from God).
They settled in Shinar
- God had told them to fill the Earth.
- They aren't filling the Earth.

Verses 3, 4
They want a place to live
- A name for themselves
- The Tower, a massive structure
- Heb. Migdal - Strength, Pride.
They wanted fame and fortune.

Verse 6
It was only the Beginning of something...
Humans have great potential
- Both for Good, and for Evil
'Something needs to be done'

Verse 7
They were doing it without God!

Verses 8, 9
What they had been doing was all for naught - Because God was not in it.

God needs to be first.
Colossians 3:20

Follow Jesus, He will build His Church.
Jesus has better plans for us.
We need to lay down our plans.
We are working for the Lord.
Stand firm for Him.

What are you working for?
