Lawndale had appeared to be boring at first. But Daria Morgendorffer had quickly found that was only the surface. Case in point was the reason why she was walking around her neighborhood this evening. There was a sudden stop. Emry had found something. “What is it?” she asked.
Emry sniffed and sat up on her hind legs. “The Mystery Lady's scent again,” she said.
Daria would never have believed that she would be fighting crime with a talking Labrador, and yet here she was. “Is it stronger or weaker?” she asked.
“Stronger.”
“But we're approaching Howard Drive...” Daria didn't want to consider that Jane would be the Mystery Lady. 'It has to be someone else.'
“It still doesn't have to be,” Emry said. Howard Drive was on the edge of town, but there were other subdivisions nearby.
