Towards the end of the year, the Government of the State of Gadsen votes to allow for it's own abolition. This would allow for the abolition of the State in the next year. (The Governments of Arizona and New Mexico also allow for the absorption of the Gadsen terrritory into their own.)
The 25th Amendment is ratified. Rules are set out in the case of the President being incapacitated (by injury or illness).
South America
The Bolivian-Paraguay war continues.
The UK-Argentine war ends with the last of the Falklands occupation forces captured.

Nigeria gives The Gambia it's independence...

In Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan becomes Mayor of Istanbul for the first time...
