Star Trek: Starting Anew
Zefram Cochrane looked at the Vulcan's sitting there in the Bar. They seemed to be taking everything in, but not enjoying themselves. As much as people had joked with them about the momentous day this day had turned out to be, they hadn't cracked a smile. He turned to Lily Sloane and pointed that fact out to her. “It could be a cultural thing. One way they're different from us,” she pointed out.
“Certainly true,” Zef considered. He decided to talk to Solkar, the one who had emerged from the ship first.
Zef gave Solkar another glass of water. “I've noticed that you and your crew are,” he paused, trying to find words he was sure wouldn't cause offense. “Stoic.”
“Stoic?” Solkar asked. “We may be, compared to you. But we pursue a philosophy of logic, rather than letting our emotions dictate our actions.”
