2019 had ended with a heatwave. This was what was in on Danae Wilkins' mind as she woke up. It was the coolest it had been since Christmas Eve. “That is a relief,” she said. She had some events planned with friends for the day. She didn't want to have to swelter through them as she did on Christmas Day. (But catching up with her cousins had made that worth the trouble.) She climbed out of bed.
Having dressed, Danae scruitinised herself in the bathroom mirror. She felt comfortable with the way she looked. She didn't really have any body image issues. A slight girl, she had bright green eyes and blonde hair which fell below her shoulder blades. (She didn't go for the short/clipped look most of her peers seemed to go for.) Still, she wanted to change something. She looked at her hair again. There was plenty of potential there. 'Maybe one of those small braids?' So that's what she did and given the cooler temperatures she could leave it down otherwise.
As soon as she started breakfast, she heard the front door open. Her roommate was back from whatever New Years Eve celebrations she had attended. “Hello.”
