In the Midterm Elections, neither the Democrats, nor the Republicans gain a majority in the House, due to the presence of Independents.

Lunar Base Two is established at the Lunar North Pole.

The Southern High Speed Rail Route is established.

China, the United States and the European Union begin different geoengineering projects. (All contradictory...)

The Devolution Amendment. A Constitutional Amendment gives Congress the power to establish 'sub-federal units' within the Union with one or more states. (Of course there is a prevision that forbids re-creating the Confederacy, either by name or by borders.)

The CTDC continues to grow.

More Lunar bases are established.
Three more Mars missions are carried out.


2050s
China and India come to blows over resources in the Himalayas. The war is brief but has an effect on the world economy, causing a Depression. (It isn't as severe as 120 years earlier, but still very bad.)

All the 52 states of the United States are in one Sub-federal unit or other...

CTDC supports India but doesn't commit forces.

Three Lunar colonies established. (Chinese, European, American)

Five Mars missions carried out.

One Manned mission to Venus' orbit. Another three to Asteroids. (Ceres, Pallas and Vesta)


2060s
CTDC is renamed to Union of Commonwealth Realms (UCR). A Commonwealth Council runs the top level Government of the Commonwealth. (The UCR is similar to the EEC in the 1980's)

The World economy recovers from the recession.

UCR, Japanese and Indian Lunar colonies established. More Chinese, European and American colonies established.

Two Mars colonies established. (American and European)

More manned missions to Venus and the Asteroids.


2070s
Lunar population reaches 10000. Indonesia and South America join the colonisation effort.

More Mars colonies established. More American and European colonies, joined by Chinese, Japanese and UCR colonies.

World temperatures peak.
A Chinese Tiakonaut walks on Europa.


2080s
Ceres colony established.

War occurs between China and one side and the UCR, Japan and South Korea on the other side. Outcome: Chinese Lunar colonies taken over by Japan and the UCR. North Korea freed from Chinese influence (with the Kim Family no longer holding any positions of power).



2090s
More Asteroid colonies established.

California becomes de facto independent. (The Devolution Amendment is vague enough to allow it...)

January 2101
Vanessa Roberts (a Republican) is inaugurated as the 58th President of the United States.


February 2101
A terrorist attack occurs in Arestown, the largest colony town on Mars. It is the latest in a series of attacks by anti-terraforming partisans.
