Part 3
Once they had ordered their pizza’s they found a booth. “So, we were going to talk about ourselves?” Brittany asked.
“Yes,” Daria answered.
“So…”
“You can start.”
“Sure. As you can guess, I like sports…” Brittany began.
Daria wasn’t sure. Brittany did seem nice, but she wasn’t sure she wanted a cheerleader as a friend. She thought for a few moments after Brittany finished telling her about herself. ‘So far, Lawndale is better than that place in Texas.’ She reflected for a few more seconds. “As you may have already guessed, I’m rather cynical and sarcastic, using the latter as a kind of shield.”
“So, you’re saying you don’t want to be a friend?” Brittany asked, sounding less ‘hip’ than earlier.
“No, I’m telling you what to expect. Given that you have been friendly since you entered that classroom, I’m willing to try to make friends with you. Most people would have been put off by the way I acted.”
“I was annoyed about the history quiz.”
“I could see that,” Daria said.
“Go on.”
“Right. I grew up in a small town in Texas…”
