“Thanks, Bete,” Parris said. She sat in the Ranger's Chair, and called up the the actual distress call. “Pirates!” she said in derision, though she knew that was only one of many possiblilities. “Sarah, employ full scan.”

“Engaging full scan,” the AI reported. “Results will be available in 24 minutes.”

'That's a while to wait,' she thought. She then went over the data in the distress call again, including the information on the freighter itself.
