6th November
The Christ Powered Life
Romans 6:12 - 23
Slaves to Righteousness
If you have given yourself to Christ, you are justified. But living a sin free life is impossible.
Roman Slavery - many different ways a person could become one.
We are no longer slaves to sin, but to righteousness
We're all enslaved to something.
Sin - an illegitimate way of fulfilling a legitimate need.
Vs 13
We have the ability to offer ourselves to God. We can be open to Him.
You are slaves to the one you obey.
1 John 2:1

We need to align our minds to God so that our thinking becomes more like His.

"Death" vs "Eternal Life"
We need to order our lives as slaves to righteousness. We need to prioritise Christ in our lives.

Romans 7
Struggling With Sin
Double Lives. Respected Christians Exposed.
vs 21

How do we fight against the double life
1) Acknowledge what can and cannot help you
vs 12
vs 7, 8
The Law alerts us to sin. The sin then draws us towards it.
2) Admit your struggle with sin
Paul was frustrated. It is a frustration for us too. Our actions don't match our identity. Paul was upset with himself. We also need that anguish. Admit sin to God, and to each other. Don't hide it! Don't be prideful and ashamed.

God wants us to fight against it.

3) Answer the struggle with death.

Realise that we are dead to sin.
vs 24, 25
Sin is on a time limit. It was defeated at the Cross.

Romans 8:1 - 17
Walk By the Spirit
Futility - Chapter 7:18
'Trying to earn our salvation by works is a pathway to futility'
We are saved by grace.
vs 1,2
We are secure because of what Christ has done.
The Law's weakness - our sinful nature.
vs 3, 4
Therefore Christ was sent
We have been set free from sin and death.
We have freedom in Christ
vs 5
How we live out our lives depends upon how we fill our minds. We need to reject the world.
vs 7
The Flesh breeds hostility with God.

Galatians 5:16 - 25
The fruit of the Spirit
Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, Self-control

Paul is not talking about following a moral code. He is talking about listening to the Holy Spirit.

John 11:25

vs 12 - 14
Put to death
Lead b the Spirit
Keep in Step with the Spirit
Walk in the Spirit
Like a dance moving as one with the Spirit

If we can't follow the Spirit - we won't live the life Jesus wants us to.

The Influence of the Spirit helps us live like Jesus, love like Jesus
Loved the Father
Loved the world
Loved the lost
Loves the Church

Romans 8:18 - 27
Children of God
Poseidon Adventure parallel - only a small group saved - Challenges in the journey.
vs 14 - 17
To be a son is to be an heir, we are heirs along with Christ. 'Co-heirs with Christ'. We receive what Christ receives.
Ephesians 2:6

vs 17, 18
It is nothing compared to the wonder that is waiting for us.
vs 20 - 22
The Creation itself is fallen, as a result of the fall of man.

John 1:2
The Spirit is our advocate. As we face the perils of life the Spirit is our companion and guide.
vs 24, 25
Hebrews 11:16
Longing for a better place. They knew their hopes wouldn't be fulfilled in this world. Our destiny is one of glory.

God's presence changes everything.

Like the best of this world wtih all the negative things taken away.
Revelation 2:1 - 5
Don't be overwhelmed by the decay of this present world. You have an inheritance of God.
