1.2 Quinn
It was a tense dinner. But then, dinners were usually tense at the Morgendorffers. The move from Highland to Lawndale hadn't changed that. Quinn paused after telling her parents about her first day.
"Sounds like a well thought out decision, honey," her father said, referring to her turning down the pep squad's offer.

'Of course,' she thought.

"As long as you can join Pep Squad later, if you want. Never know how much we can handle until we try, though," her mother said.

"What about you, Daria? How was your first day?" her father asked.

'Uh! Why ask Daria now? She wouldn't have met anyone, or done anything!' Quinn thought. Daria always had her head in her weird books.

"Well, my history teacher hates me because I know all the answers, but there are some interesting idiots in my class," Daria answered.

'No surprise there,' Quinn thought.

"That's great!" her father said.

"Jake!" her mother warned.

"I mean..."

"Daria, you father's trying to tell you not to judge people until you know them..." Her parents talked to Daria for a short while before the phone rang.

"I hope that is not the booster society again!" the Booster Society was very annoying,

Her mother answered the phone. When she had finished she asked. "You girls had a psychological test today?"

"They said we wouldn't be graded!" Quinn objected.

"Daria, they want you to take a special class for a few weeks, then they'll test you again."

"She flunked the test?" Quinn asked, in surprise. She didn't remember a time when Daria had failed a test!

"She didn't flunk anything," her mother said. She lowered her voice. "It seems she has low self-esteem."

'Oh!' Quinn thought.

"What? That really stinks, Daria!" her father said.

"Easy, Jake. Focus," her mother said. "She turned to Daria. "We tell you over and over again that you're wonderful, and you just don't get it!" She banged her fist on the table"What's wrong with you!"

Quinn thought of something else, having a sister with low self esteem could damage her popularity! That was something that couldn't happen! "Is she going to have, like a breakdown or something? Cause that could really mess me up with my new friends."

"Don't worry," Daria said. "It's a mistake."

"I'll say!" her father said.

"I have low esteem for everyone else," Daria said.

'Of course you do!' Quinn thought. That wasn't news.
