Excerpt from: Small Town Mystery
Velma looked around. There wasn’t anything that stuck out. “We need to be careful,” she said.
“Definitely,” Fred agreed, as he slowly lead the way towards the stairs.

‘There’s probably lots to do,’ she considered. She then looked up the ship’s directory. There were a lot of entertainment and other options. “Online arcade, department store. swimming pool, cinema, theatre, gymnasium, multi faith chapel, baseball diamond, tennis courts, table tennis tables, three bars, four taverns, two childrens playgrounds.”

Excerpt from: MJ and the Magazine Editor
“Hello?” MJ asked.
“Are you Mary Jane Watson?”
“Yes.”
“Splend! I will be over at your place in Forest Hills tomorrow night. Then on Thursday I will be at Midtown High to spend the day as a typical metropolitan student!”
“Um. OK.”
Anna Watson wasn’t sure what to make of MJ’s essay being entered into a contest without her permission.

Excerpt from: The Complications of a New Kid
“You must be Daria!” the blonde boy said.
“Yes,” Daria said. His enthusiasm rubbed her the wrong way. “And you are?”
“Ted,” he answered.
“Um, nice to meet you.”
“So, you’re here to volunteer for Yearbook?”
“Against my better judgement,” Daria answered.
“Sarcasm, interesting,” Ted commented.
“Of course.”
“So, where do you want to start?”
Daria wasn’t sure. “It depends,” she answered.
“On what?”
“On what others are already working on.”
“That won’t be much of a problem. You’re one of the first for this year.”
Daria did wonder why Jodie had approached her. It was probably that Lawndale High had it’s fair amount of crises since she had started there. ‘But didn’t every High School?’ she wondered. At least it didn’t have as many as Highland High.
There had been a lot of photos taken of the various events so far that year. She could see a lot of her sister Quinn and her friends in many of them. ‘I can’t leave the Fashion Club out of it, as much as I would like to.’ She shook her head. “I’ll start with the Clubs and other extracurriculars,” she told Ted.
“Sure.”

Excerpt from: Spider Quinn
“I’ll tell you about something that happened in the 1980’s…”
Helen clicked off the phone.
“You look like you’ve seen a ghost,” Daria commented.
“Her story checks out. She said something that only she would know about myself and your late father.”
“Which was?”
“Something embarrassing to say to one’s daughter,” Helen responded. “In any case, she’ll be here in half an hour.”
“Right.”
“Where’s your sister?”
“No idea,” Daria answered.
Helen sighed. Quinn was nearly always out.
SpiderGirl arrived back at Glen Oaks Lane to find an unfamiliar car out front of the red brick house at 1111. She wondered who it could be. She made herself scarce as she saw the door open. She didn’t want to be seen too often in her superhero persona by either Helen or Daria, especially close to the house.
Helen saw that Linda had changed a lot. “Welcome to Lawndale!” she said.
“May I come in? Is Jake home?”
Helen frowned.
“What?”
“Jakey has recently passed away,” Helen explained quietly.
“Oh!”
“He got shot when someone tried to hijack his car.”
“I’m sorry to hear that,” Linda said.
Daria saw Quinn enter through the kitchen door. “Just in time.”
“Just in time for what?” Quinn asked.
Daria explained what had happened.
“Quite strange,” Quinn said quietly.
“I agree,” Daria said.
“Like, you said, in Freemont, that we could investigate crime. Maybe we could investigate this,” Quinn suggested.
“But you’re still in the Fashion Club.”
“I’m still on the outs with Sandi.”
