The Lego Movie: The Second Part
Obviously the sequel to the first Lego Movie. This one picks up 5 years later, in a post apocalyptic version of Bricksburg, Apocalpseburg. Emmett thinks everything is still awesome, but Lucy doesn't. However, there's a wider battle going on, with sporadic alien attacks that take everything that is 'cute'. And in the real world, there is sibling rivalry between Finn and his sister, Bianca, which comes to a head. And there is a twist at the end which is rather interesting. Certainly thought provoking.
The intro and first act is in Apocalypseburg, but the rest is in the Si-Star System. However the events in Apocalypseburg set up the rest of Emmett's story line. Starting with strange dreams Emmett has of something happening that afternoon, then with the alien attack. Lucy and some of the other denizens are abducted. (Bianca taking the minifigures off Finn.) Thus, Emmett decides to go and rescue him. Thus sets in motion a series of events that would lead to another 'End of the World' moment.
It turns out that the Queen of the Si-Star system, a shapeshifter, wants to hold a wedding to bring about peace, but Lucy is having nothing of it. Her suspicion was well written and presented. Then there is the person Emmett meets while he is travelling to the Si-Star system, Rex. The end twist relates to him, but more on that below. Rex leads Emmett through the Si-Star system, and teaches him stuff which might be useful later. A series of misunderstandings occur such that Emmett disrupts the wedding ceremony, by destroying the temple/cake.
(That is presented rather) Actually Finn destroying Bianca's temple/cake, causing their mother to come in and tell them to put all the Lego away. That is the 'Momocalypse' Emmett saw earlier that day. But the twist, that Rex is Emmett from the future, is interesting. Lost under the dryer earlier that day, eventually manages to move and then using pieces from Lego versions of the De Lorean, Bill and Ted's booth, the TARDIS and HG Well's Time Machine to build his own time machine. (Seems to be the Flux Capacitor tile that's the vital part?)
However, the ending where Lucy rescues Emmett (and Rex fades like Marty almost did) and Finn and Bianca reconcile was rather good. It may not be as good as the first film, but I recommend it. 8.5/10.
