When Marnie Was There – Ruminations of Past and Future
Autumn was as it always was in Kissakibetsu, crimson and yellow of the soon to fall leaves making the place even more picturesque than usual. Hisako was painting the view over the salt marsh towards the mansion when she heard Dio Sayaka call out to her. “Anna’s letters have come!” she called out, referring to Sasaki Anna, a girl who had stayed that summer.
“That’s wonderful,” Hisako stated. “I have been wondering what her wonderful discovery was.”
“Same here,” Sayaka said. “She’s been all mysterious about it, in her quiet and aloof way.”
“I guess it took time for her to figure out how to write about it.”
