28 The Fifth Element
Rewatch. An ancient evil is returning, an the only one who can save Earth is a taxi driver who used to be a fighter pilot. There are a few different plots within this film. The ancient evil returning and the way it can be defeated. The former fighter pilot/taxi driver being recruited to help save the Earth. Other characters following their own agendas whilst visiting a resort ship... There is also a mysterious red haired woman, who is somehow supposed to help in saving the world. Still it is relatively easy to follow.
The introductory sequence, set shortly before the First World War, sets up the premise of the film well, adding a sense of tension from the get go. The sequences leading to the discovery of the 'Fifth Element', in the form of the mysterious red-haired woman, by the taxi driver are good too. As are the following chase scenes through the future New York City. His interactions with the priests and the government agents afterwards are also well done (although it is unclear how everyone could fit into that small apartment).
The climax on the resort ship is easy to follow too, although the motivations of the hostage taking aliens are a rather unclear. 8/10.
