“We’ve left the ion storm, Captain. We’ll be out of the nebula in less than two minutes,” Paris reported.

“Very good, Mr. Paris. Once we’ve cleared the nebula, we’ll look for a planet that will be able to take them in,” Janeway said.


“Where are you going?” Hana asked.

“To the Bridge. Something is about to happen,” Kes answered.

“I’ll come with you.”

“No, stay here.”


“Janeway to Neelix, please report to the Bridge.”

“On my way, Captain.”


Vorik returned to Engineering to the sound of the Chief Engineer cursing. He had got used to that over the last two weeks since Janeway had promoted her over Carey’s protests.

“Deanna Troi Personal Log; Stardate 41285.9. It’s all lies. But I’ll start at the beginning.”


Enterprise arrived at Starbase 395, located at the edge of Federation space, after a month of ‘leisurely’ travel from Deneb IV.

Lieutenant Deanna Troi returned to her quarters to find that there was a private message waiting for her. “No!” she said. For she recognized the ostentatious crest that had appeared at the start of the message. The combination of the symbols of the Betazed Ministry of Federation and Foreign Affairs, the Federation Diplomatic Service and the Fifth House of Betazed. There was only one person who used that symbol. Ambassador Lwaxana Troi, her mother.

“I’m sure.,” Haru said uneasily.

“I’m sure you know something about it.”


Haru didn’t want to say anything about the Sanctuary, the Bureau, or the other people who lived there. They deserved their privacy. But she knew this ‘Doctor’ would keep pressing. “There’s something, but you would have to let me lead you there.”

“You can’t explain it?” the Doctor asked. “Or you want to show us?”

James Madison waited for the temporal vehicle to arrive, bringing the 46th President back to this time. He hoped that he wouldn't be like the 45th President. 'Maybe the electors will have more sense,' he thought. Suddenly, there was a flicker of light, and a sound like a 'Pop!' The mechanism 'faded in' in front of him. The door opened.

A man stepped out. “President James Madison?” he asked.

“I am he.”
