Chapter 66: Stevie? A Brain?
“Sandy attacked Quinn!” Cameron said.
“Not true!” Sandy said, struggling against Vic's hold.
“So, true!” Quinn said, relaxing. “He attacked me! I was defending myself!”
“That's not quite true,” Cameron said.
“Cameron?”
“You didn't need to slap him back,” Cameron said, quietly.
“I guess so,” Quinn said, equally as quietly. He turned to LeBeau. “Sandy has it in for me!” he said.
“And also for Stevie, due to his essay,” Christian said.
Stevie nodded.
LeBeau glared at Sandy using her left eye. “Yes! I have observed Sandy disliking Quinn! I also remember the debate at the Coffee House.”
Christian spoke up again, telling Ms. LeBeau the sequence of events that lead to the fight.
“Thank you, Mr. Bell-Leung. That was quite illuminating.”
“What now?” Quinn asked quietly.
“Mr. Li has to know about this!”
Less than fifteen minutes later, Christian, Quinn, Sandy and Vic were in the principal's office, having been accompanied there by Ms LeBeau, who had explained the situation to the Principal.
Mr. Andrew Li was very annoyed. How dare these students put the reputation of the school at risk. Not to mention their safety and those of others! He knew the cause of the problem though.
...
He glared at Sandy. “Now, Mr. Griffith! Why did you attack Mr. Brocklethwaite?”
“He started it!” Sandy said in a surly tone.
“Not true!” Quinn interjected.
“Wait a moment, Mr. Brocklethwaite!” the principal said. He turned back to Sandy.
“Wrong, Mr. Griffith! The evidence clearly points to you initiating the hostilities.” He picked up a remote control. He turned attention to a tv screen to the side of the office. Security camera footage of the incident in question was then shown. “First, you push, Mr. Brocklethwaite away from Mr. Rowe, with whom he was conversing. He pushes back in response. Then you punch him to the ground!” He then paused the tape. “What do you have to say for yourself?”
Sandy remained silent.
“I have no choice, but to give you detention.”
“Detention! No!” Sandy objected.
“You have no choice in the matter!” the Principal said.
Sandy looked down.
“For the next fornight you will report to Ms. LeBeau for an hour after school.”
“Why me, Andrew?” the teacher in question asked.
“Because you were there. Ms. Ewing wasn't. Her tardiness will be investigated!”
Defeated for the moment, LeBeau lowered her head, similarly to the student she was to detain. “Yes, Andrew!”
The Principal then turned to Quinn. “Mr. Brocklethwaite, this time, I'm letting you off with a warning.”
“Yes, Mr. Li, but I was only defending myself.”
“That much was clear, but you still retaliated.”
“I understand,” Quinn said.
“Now, you may all go to class. Antonia, accompany Mr. Griffith there!”
LeBeau sighed. “Yes, Andrew!”
Later that night, as he prepared for bed, Stevie thought about the events of the day.

“Sound's like a well thought out descision, honey,” her father, Jake, said.
“As long as you can join the pep squad later, if you want. Never know how much we can handle until we try though,” her mother, Helen said.
“What about you, Daria? How was your first day?” Jake asked his other daughter.
“Well my history teacher hates me because I know all the answers, but there are some interesting idiots in my class,” Daria answered.
“That's great!”
“Jake!”
“Daria, your father's trying to tell you not to judge people until you know them...” Helen began.
Several streets away, Alex was having her own dinner. She arrived in the dining room at the usual time, 7:00 PM on the dot. As usual, her mother had set the table, the usual food for Monday night was waiting. She sat down and waited for her mother to ask how school was.
“How was school today, Alex?” her mother asked.
“The usual,” Alex said in her usual quiet tone.
“I received another call from Ms. Li tonight. It appears that they still think you have low self esteem. You're in that class again from tomorrow afternoon.”
Alex nodded, knowing that her Mom would raise her voice if she didn't respond.
“This should be the last time!” her Mom said, raising her voice slightly.
That took Alex aback. “Mother?” she asked.
“You don't have low self esteem. There's a mistake! You will pass out of that class, and find an extracurricular activity that I know you can achieve at.”
Alex thought. Her mother was always trying to get her to do an extracurricular activity. But she had always said that the Self Esteem Class had taken up her time. Now she wanted her out of the class? 'I have to find something!' she realized. “Yes, Mother,” she said in a dispassionate voice.”
“And you will find a friend,” her Mom said.
“Yes, Mother.”
“Stop repeating that!”
“I will pass out of the self esteem class,” said, no less dispassionately.
“Good,” Linda Griffin said, seeing that her daughter was steered onto the path she wanted her to go on.
The rest of the dinner was spent in silence. Both, mother and daughter were absorbed in their own worlds. Linda was planning what she would do at work the next day. Alex was beginning to panic about how she would exit the self esteem class. Mr. O'Neill's New Age mumbo jumbo was inpenetrable. 'I mean, what does 'to realize your actuality,' mean anyway?' she wondered. She also wondered what extracurricular activity she would take up.

"How are you today?" he asked.
"Has there been any unusual activity here in the past few days?" the cricket guy asked,
"It's Dega Street, there are always unusual activities," Axel answered.
"One of those neighbourhoods," the cricket guy muttered. "I mean, unusual for this location," he clarified.
Axel thought for a moment. "Nothing," he said.
"Are you sure?"

She showed Briony the two sketches.
Briony looked at the sketches, and read the theory. “Interesting idea, Elodie,” she finally said.
“I knew you would like it,” Elodie replied.
“I was going to ask, would you like to walk through the Palace Garden with me?”
“Of course,” Elodie said. She liked hearing about Briony’s insights on the plants that filled the Garden. She pulled a lever nearby, disabling the gyroscopes that allowed the telescope to track the sun as it moved through the sky. She then placed the notebook in a drawer close at hand. “Let’s go.”
As the two entered Palace Garden, Elodie was thinking about more changes that had occurred due to the printing press.
