Vital Signs
Colossians 3:12 - 17
Previously - Acts 2:42
The Spirit was flowing through the people, giving them life.
Relationships are important
- They aren't perfect. We yearn for better relationships.
- Healthy relationships add to a sense of wellbeing
- Bring enormous value
Relationships are put at risk
- Wrong priorities
- Dishonesty, judgement, gossip
- Trust is important!
- Thoughts not in the right place
Philippians 2:1 - 5
He came into the world for our benefit, not His
We need to have the same attitude.
Romans 15: 1 -3
He is the creator, but he is also a servant. He is our servant. He gives much more than we can give Him.
Implications
- Looking for a friend we can serve rather than serve us.
- Looking for a church - where we can serve.
Colossians 3:12 - 17
How well are we exhibiting these behaviours.
Compassion
- It starts with people you don't like
- Jesus responded with compassion
- Listening to their circumstances
Kindness
- More than 'just being nice'
- Encouragement - building into another person
- 'A healthy relationship should be a place of exceptional encouragement'
Humility
- More about how I treat other people than how I treat myself
- Allows us to say 'I am sorry'
Gentleness
- Confrontation is important. But we don't have to be angry or impatient
- Jesus confronted the woman at the well with gentleness.
- Gossip destroyes
- Gentleness builds
Patience
- 'I am prepared to be in this relationship for the long term'
- If God wasn't patient, we wouldn't be saved.
Forgiveness
- If you are unable to forgive someone who hurt you, you wouldn't be healthy spiritually or emotionally.
We need to pray for each other regarding these characteristics.

The Christ Powered Life
Romans 5:1 - 11
Peace With God
vs 1, 2
We now have peace with God. This is a powerful assurance. It was bought by Christ's death on the Cross. He wants us to know this. We need to have assurance and a sense of security in our relationship with God.
We are now at peace with Him, through Jesus and what He did at the Cross.
Ephesians 3:12
Hebrews 4:16
Hebrews 10:19
Christ is our foundation in life.
Hope - we can fully expect what it would be fulfilled in God. There is a complete change from what was before. We can go into His presence and know Him with confidence.
vs 2 - 4
The character we take into Eternity is important
vs 8
We were at our worst. Now, we're at our best, through Him.

A legacy of decay and death.
We were in Adam, before we were in Christ.

vs 15
Adam chosing his own way
Jesus sent by the Father to give of Himself.

1 John 3:12, 13
The Christ Powered Life
Romans 6:1 - 11
Free From Sin
Humans have a bias towards sin
We should never go out and sin - and then make light of it.
Paul emphatically denies that we should go on sinning.
Paul outlines his arguement in seven steps
1. We died to sin
vs 1
We are insensitive to it?
No, that is not what Paul means.
Death is the punishment for, and comes from, sin.
Romans 5:10
We are united with Jesus in His death and His victory over death
We are dead to the fact of guilt of sin.
2. We are baptised into Christ
3. God intends us to share in Christ's resurrection (vs 4 -5)
4. Our old self was crucified with Christ (6-7)
- It is now obsolete
5. If we died with Christ we will also live with Him
6. We count ourselves dead to sin, but alive to Christ
Paul's logic is
If Christ died and was buried once - for all sin
And if you have been united to Him and to His death and burial by baptism
Then you must consider yourselves to be dead to sin the same way.
7 We must offer ourselves to Christ.
