Church notes - September 2016

Church notes - September 2016
4th September
Eating with Disciples
The Last Supper
John 13:1 - 17
Jesus eagerly desired that His disciples have the meal with Him. He knew that one of them would betray Him. One thing is certain in the future. We will sin.

Judas was identified as the traitor. He is described as not believing Jesus.

John 13:18
What would Peter have done to Judas if he knew? Jesus was merciful to Judas.

Luke 22:7 - 38

John 13:2 - 6
Wearing sandals, walking along dusty unpaved roads - leads to dusty smelly feet!
We need to serve others with humility

John 13:18 - 38
We need to have awkward conversations with people.
Seasoned with grace and kindness, this causes relationships to grow.

Communion
John 13:6 - 11

1 John 1:9

Baptism
- Kiel Gardoll
- Susannah Forrest

11th September
Matthew 27: 45 - 56

A Breakfast of Champions
John 21
Verses 1 - 14
'Do you love me?'
Peter was keeping himself busy. 'Business as usual'

Jesus asked 'Do you love me' three times.
A reminder of when Peter denied Him three times.

His spiritual pride melted away. He surrendered to the Risen Saviour.
Each time Jesus reinstated Peter, He showed that he had forgiven him.

Hpw do we know that we're forgiven?
- The Cross
- The Great Commission
- We have His trust

He asks everyone 'Do you love me?'
He has given all of us an Eternal purpose.

vs 18 - 21
Jesus didn't answer when Peter asked 'What about him?' while pointing at John. Peter's thought was of a comparison.
He is saying not to compare.
It is a trap of Satan!

He doesn't want us to compare.

The question is asking whether we have grasped the forgiveness He has offered to us.

Vital Signs
Taking a patient's vital signs
Temperature
Pulse
Breathing
Blood Pressure
Very important

How healthy is your soul? What are the vital signs for your spiritual health?

Day of Pentecost
Acts 2:17
They devoted themselves to these practices. They didn't dabble in it like half-hearted would-be musicians

Am I meeting God in the Bible on a regular basis?
Is it time for you to do something new with reading/being engaged with the Bible?

2. Fellowship
Is God Transforming my relationships?

The early Christians were devoted to their fellowship.
eg
Ephesians 4:26, 27
We need to deal with resentments, we need to forgive.

3. Prayer
Am I continually communicating with God?

If you have an attitude where you don't want to pray, bring it to God anyway. They were convinced that God cares, that He listens and that He responds. When we pray, things happen.
In the morning - ask the LORD to help with your day and aobut people for whon you are concerned.

A person who is devoted to prayer. A prayer life that invites God into their life.

4. The Breaking of the Bread
Am I sharing my life with others?

The Acts 2 Church
- Sharing with complete strangers (via the Spirit's prompting)

If your blood pressure, cholesterol or blood sugar level was high, you would do something about it.
Look at your spiritual vital signs and do something about it. Ask God what you need to change and for the courage you need to make that change.
