The Pharisee and the Tax Collector were complete opposites.
The Pharisee boasts
The Tax Collector confesses and takes responsibility for his sins, and repents.
Jesus turned expectations on their head.
He highlighted a paradox.

James 4:6
The Pharisee went to the Temple to anounce how 'good' he was.
The Tax Collector went home justified.

Pride: exaggerated sense of self importance.

Proverbs 16: 5
Psalm 10:4

Genesis 3:5
Satan's temptation was 'You'll be like God'
Sin seeking to enthrone self in place of God.

Deuteronomy 8: 11 - 18

Pride: an offense against God.

Phillippians 2

Pride excludes others.
Humility opens people to changes God may make in their lives.
There is nothing we can do to impress God.
